Excellent kit, robust, lightweight and accurate
Excellent product, lightweight, robust, easy to assemble and carry between plots. Accurate and simple to use. I’ve had excellent results. I purchased a Bluetooth plug in to connect my wireless EarPods rather than use the headphones supplied. The digger tool supplied is also robust in the hardest ground- flint and clay. Can’t fault this kit and superb value for money.

Great detector at great price
I purchased the DR.ÖTEK MT-XR metal detector as I was keen to get in to metal detecting and didn't want to spend too much money I initially and was pleasantly surprised. The product arrived well-packaged, and assembly was very straightforward. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it came with useful accessories like headphones and a digging tool, which meant I was ready to start detecting right away. My first use was really positive. I had no issues, and the detector picked up some good signals. The discrimination feature worked well, allowing me to focus on potential finds and ignore junk. Overall, this is a great entry-level detector. It works effectively and is an excellent tool for anyone new to the hobby. I highly recommend it as a fantastic starting point for beginners.

Value for the money. Probably not a pro tool.
I must start by qualifying my review: I know next to nothing about being a "detectorist" - I understand the science behind the devices, but that's all, so do not rely on my opinion only when deciding whether to buy one of these. It is easy to assemble. It does appear able to detect metal: I'm not sure how much meaning to attach to the numbers that it generates, but it did find a pair of lost kitchen scissors on its very first outing. The fighting trowel that comes with it (it really does look like a garden trowel adapted for disembowelment) seems to be fairly sturdy and made holes in my lawn as I dug for treasure. I get the impression that it is of reasonable quality and will last. I imagine that it will be most useful for locating dropped metal objects - like my scissors - rather than gold coins. It is also generally true that you get what you pay for, and this is down at the inexpensive end of the market. I think that if I were serious about taking up metal detecting as a hobby, I'd probably pay three or four times what this cost for a "professional" detector. As of right now, I'm pleased with my purchase. I suspect that it will only see occasional use, but there will be times when I'm glad that I have the ability to find lost metal.

At the price I cannot see a better machine on the market, the xtras are fantastic.
I have a had a few detectors during the last 40 years, but pound for pound this beginner entry level machine far outweighs the pro's from the cons. At only £94+ it is constructed of ultra lightwieght material, as not to tire your arms, but ease of use, and added other factors. Discreminating modes are easily changed, and are accurate to a very high standard. It has converted three of my grandsons from mobile phones and games consoles, which was ( I thought ) an impossibility. The look on their faces when it has found material, and starts bleeping, well you can imagine the scene. Another little added extra, and cash saver is the pinpointing device built in, saves time and money from a seperate device. If you are thinking of starting up metal detecting, give this little beauty a try, many thanks to Dr Otek and friends. When it is at a later date I may well upgrade to the more expensive Dr Otek models. I remain a very happy customer. Dave Parton Shropshire.

Inexpensive, good quality metal detector.
As a beginner, I found this very easy to use. From the start it is easy to assemble. It feels really well made and not heavy. The Features are easy to understand and it appears to be detecting ok. I must admit I did you tube how to use it, just to make sure I was doing it correctly, and it was as easy as they show it. I also tested it against a friends more expensive detector and it matched it. As I have not fully tried it out in the field, due to bad weather, I have tried it out in my garden, just to get a feel for it and try out the different detecting methods. As an entry level metal detector I cannot fault it. The big test will be when I can finally get out and start detecting properly. Overall it's inexpensive, good quality, and accessories are very handy, i:e carry case and edge digger. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of starting this infectious hobby. I honestly cannot fault it.

An excellent detector for beginners and a great back-up detector for professionals
DR Ötek MT-XR Metal Detector Review (January 2022) Hello there, here is my HONEST review of the Dr Ötek MT-XR metal detector. Firstly I’d like to say that I am a complete novice to metal detecting and I have never owned or even been metal detecting before! For years I have wanted my own detector but Ive never really been able to afford one. So just after Christmas I decided to buy my first, and after watching countless videos and reviews of the MT-XR I decided to take the plunge and buy one. I got it for just over £120.00 from Amazon. And being a prime customer I had further discount on top of the already discounted price. I received the detector in the post a few days later (after the bank holiday early Jan) the box was well packaged and secure, and I was very happy with the service. The detector itself was extremely simple and straight forward to put together. And within 5 minutes I had assembled the machine with no hassle. It’s very lightweight and very easy to use. There’s a decent amount of settings on the machine that any novice can easily understand. (Like me) The detector takes a simple 9v battery which does come included in the box to get you started. Although I would suggest buying a rechargeable 9v battery if you’re going to be keeping the machine for a long period. As the cheaper battery included isn’t the best. But that really isn’t an issue. Like most people I couldn’t wait to try out the detector, so straight away, just as the sun was setting I decided to have a quick walk around in the garden using the jewellery setting and 3 bar sensitivity and started walking around. (Here comes the exciting part) So off I wondered into my back garden and started swinging away. Sure enough after a few small signals and digging a couple of bolts/nails from the ground I had a decent 80+ signal pop up only about 4 inches down. I dug my little hole into the soil and unearthed a bent coin shaped bit of metal. I quickly filled the hole back in and rushed inside the house to get some light on it (as it was dark out and I left my phone inside the house) After a gentle wash with warm water, the coin I found was a actually a, Hammered Edward 1st Silver Groat!!! Roughly dating from 1200AD. I was over the moon!! Now after nearly a week of ownership I am really happy with how the machine operates and feels. It’s such a great machine for novices and beginners like me, and anyone could easily use it. The tones are good and the finding depth is brilliant. And it’s yesterday, I also found a 1874 Queen Victoria Penny. I’m super happy! I decided to buy the bundle version which included the carry case and tool set for digging. Which arrived in the box and are very well built. The tool is heavy duty enough to dig through rough hard soil and the pick axe On the back of the tool is brilliant for helping move the boulders from the deeper holes. I give the machine a solid 10/10 rating. I’ve also registered the detector through the website which now gives me 2 years warranty, and in doing so, I received 10% off my next order. Thanks for taking the time to read my long review. Stay safe, and happy hunting! Jon. (Wales, UK)

Great featured metal detector at a very competitive price
Well, it was our steel wedding anniversary, so what else could I have bought. Always fancied buying a detector and this one was well rated. Bought 2, boxes arrived, plain card, no frills, clear instructions for assembly, clear getting started instructions, great features for the beginner and you are up and running in less than 5 mins. I have lots to learn, but already located a tent peg, buried just under the surface in the lawn, that would have been a fun thing to find with my motor mower. The instructions take you through a test sequence, so you are confident that you are detecting the target metals, put samples down, hover over them and watch the result. This immediately boosts you confidence in the tools and your abilities. There are also plenty of highlighted points, helping you understand any false signals you might encounter. My wife, has taken the blokes approach, fired the detector up and off she went, we have a good strong silver signal, so this afternoon we’re are going to see if that ear ring lost last weekend is the culprit. This is a well manufactured, easy to use, lightweight tool, comfortable to hold, good range of useful features, offering hours/days of entertainment. I am now keen to get out and venture past my garden, but we are in lockdown, so will have to wait. If you are a beginner, I would very much recommend this detector. Now off to order a spade, Hope this helps someone.

Punching above its weight!
I have never owned a metal detector before and was debating whether to go for this or the Garrett 250. At the time of looking, the Garrett was retailing at £185, whereas the MT-XR was £130. I understand the MT-XR has previously been as low as £100, so I wondered whether many of the positive reviews considered it good value at this price rather than what I paid. In the end, I made the decision to purchase the (cheaper) MT-XR because the video reviews I watched suggested it was of similar build & quality to the Garrett 250. The detector arrived very quickly via Prime. The box was surprisingly compact and lightweight. I have attached a photo of the contents. Assembly only took one pair of hands, no tools and about 10 minutes. The instructions are very easy to follow, although there are some errors in spelling & grammar - I understand it was produced in China and doesn't seem to have been proof-read, despite appearing to target a mainly American market. I say this because the display, like the Garrett, tells you what type of coin you are likely to have found (all American denominations). The user manual does suggest what these might be if you are detecting English coins. The user manual covers the various different modes on the detector, what the signals mean, how to discriminate against certain metals, how to use the built in pinpointer etc. I have deducted one star from the product review because the package contained a card detailing information to validate the 2 year warranty. I navigated to the website on the card and the link was broken. My detector is therefore not currently under warranty. The detector is incredibly lightweight and really easy to swing. I now understand what many reviews meant when they mentioned this. I haven't used it for hours on end, but I imagine this wouldn't leave your arm or shoulder feeling sore. The hand grip and support is good and the height of the detector can be adjusted to cater for all sizes (no aching backs!) The only thing that surprised me with the detector was the number of plastic components. This wasn't evident in the images of it. The head appears to be plastic, as do many of the sections that you tighten. The main lengths making up the detector are a lightweight metal. As I say, I haven't owned detectors before so this may be completely normal, particularly for one at the lower end of the price range. Whether this will prove to be durable or not, time will tell. I tested the detector using various metals including nails, assorted coins and keys. If you do not use headphones, the detector is quite loud, even on the quietest setting. I found the quietest setting when using noise-cancelling headphones to be just fine. The audio jack is the same as you would find on a mobile phone and is just beneath the control unit. The control unit is simple to follow and I understand it has a backlight, although I haven't found the need to use this yet. Within about an hour of using the detector on a small section of land in the back garden (approximately 6m2), I found a number of items - nothing of value, mind you! The detector was useful in pointing out the type of metal it was likely to be and the approximate depth. The built in pin pointer was very intuitive and helped to find the precise location of the metal. I think I will probably look to get a handheld pinpointer too though - once the hole is dug, it would be far simpler to scan the turf/soil that has been dug out and the hole with the pinpointer rather than reach for the detector again and use the pinpointer function on this. All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase at this stage. I now just need to gain permissions to use it on some open farms/green spaces, which is proving difficult to attain. Edit 28/04: The warranty webpage is now working again and I have managed to validate this. I have now used the detector on a slightly larger area of land and found a number of metallic objects including modern coins, kids toys, lead piping and agricultural metal. There were a few instances where signals were strong and repeated. The pinpointer honed in on these and told me there were metals at 2", 4" and 6" depths. I proceeded to dig holes on a few occasions, going as deep as 10". The detector would then pick up no signal in the hole and no signal of the material removed from the hole. This has led me to question the device and how reliable it is. These aren't the odd bleeps but repeated signals in the 80s and 90s.
