I usually read the books before the show or the movie but in this case I discovered the books because of the series. I am obsessed with both now!!! This is one case of the TV series very accurately paying homage in a way that stays true to the books and Diana Gabaldon's epic vision and imaginative world she has created. I am ahead in the books than where the series is so far and I love being able to discover what will happen to my beloved Jamie and Claire and not having to wait until next season. I can't put these books down! I go from one right into the next with many a night spent reading on my tablet until the wee hours of the morning only stopping when sleep cannot be staved off and my eyelids lose the battle against my desire to read just one more chapter! These books have just the right mixture of fantasy, romance, action, and historical fiction and everything is underlined by the epic love story of Jamie and Claire. There is a colorful and complex set of subplots and supporting characters who almost could warrant their own story lines and separate books. Diana's world is so carefully and well crafted it could go on forever. She could continue to peel back the layers of her other characters and mythic world into an endless series of books and stories as she has already begun to do with some of the spin-off stories like with the Lord John books. I love Diana's writing style and her world and I am so happy to have found the Outlander universe through the books and the TV show which, thankfully, is staying true to her vision and voice.

This series is almost UN-put-downable!!
The plot situations (lots of them) are imaginative and very interesting. The writing is clear and precise. The characterizations bring the characters to life, and make their motives understandable. The research appears to be excellent, with only minor discrepancies that I can tell. I started this series at the beginning and was unable to resist any of the first four novels, so I bought the bundle for the last four, and I have not been disappointed. If you don't mind being captivated by interesting characters, situations, and good writing you will not be disappointed either!

Books 5-8 in the Outlander series. Amazing books that you do not want to miss.
These are books 5-8 in the outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. They are amazing! They are a mis of historically accurate mixed with fiction. And the love story between the characters is as always, heart melting and passionate. The outlander book series are by far my favorite books.

Captivating
Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of books have been filled with a good balance of history, suspense, passion, and romance. She gives the readers a creative insight into how life was lived so many centuries ago in Europe as well as America. Each book in this series ties into each other seamlessly. I am glad a made for tv version has been created that follows her books as closely as they can. Her books of course are far better to read with lots more detail, so sure to read the books before watching the tv series. Some parts may be confusing without some prior knowledge. Also try using the closed caption while viewing as well. The Scottish broag and Gaelic sections are a little hard to understand while viewing. This series is very popular. Each season revolves around her books in sequential order (i.e. Season 1 book 1, etc) and is offered through STARZ first then Amazon videos. Get the books and read them first, then kick back, relax, and enjoy the movie version too!

Best saga ever!
Best series of books I have ever read despite the length and oft tedious detail about nothing. When the action comes I just can't put the book down. Many long nights of lost sleep! I'm very happy though because I'm retired and have nothing but time on my hands. I am soooo involved that sometimes I don't know if I dreamed something or Clair dreamed the incident. Now that is hitting home! I've finished the first 6 books and rue the day that I finish. Purchased this for my daughter. She loves it too but in her busy life it is taking her forever to read. Ok, I finished the 8th book and now awaiting book number 9. I did think Diana got a bit sloppy in her chronology though. I picked up on 2 discrepancies. 1. John Grey asks Dottie if Ian survived his wound at location 90030 in the book yet Grey attended Ian's wedding months ago in location 87190 and saw that Ian was in obvious good health and fully recovered. 2. (Without giving away the name) the family buried someone in the Chapter "Hallowed Ground," (location 91144) alongside the grave marked Rollo yet further along months later in location 91746 Ian was scratching the dog's head. I think she forgot Rollo was dead. Did anyone else catch this? Still 5 stars though because the research required for this saga is overwhelming.

Great Series - Poor Package Handling
The series is great! But the handling was an issue. It came wrapped but also damaged. As a bibliophile I do my best to keep the books I buy in perfect condition. These ones arrived with the edges of the spine and covers slightly torn and one of the spine has a slice down it!!
