Would this be suitable for flour, and sugar?

It might not be a tight enough mesh for flour, but it should hold sugar. Ambitious critters could probably chew through the muslin, however.

Where are these bags made?

These bags are made in India using the finest and locally grown organic cotton.

Does the fact that they don't have a cord stop make it difficult to keep them closed?

This will depend on how full the bag is and how it's handled: if full, I pull the drawstring as tight as I can and tie an overhand knot in the cord. If it's not full and I can grasp the neck of the bag in my fist, I'll wrap a turn of the cord around the neck passing the cord under itself after completing a turn. If that doesn't work search Amazon for "cord stops for drawstrings".

Does the xl size long enough to carry baguettes? or even the l size?

The xl size measures 14'' x 18''-I haven't tried using it for baguettes but it wouldn't fit the super long ones that you get at some grocery stores but it would definitely fit smaller ones that I've seen along with large loaves of bread. Hope that's helpful!
