As long as you keep the written material out of heat and sunlight they last. If this happens put them in the refrigerator. Mine came and didn't work for long

Anything that can create moisture. Heat can create moisture until it is cool. Where did you have it that it got that hot? Don’t leave it close to a stove or open flame or in a hot car and be sure to close the cover.

how does one make the writing ball come out?

Put your thumb at the top of the plastic clip (that would be used to secure the pen to a shirt pocket) and push down. Reverse the process to retract the writing tip.

How do i get them to start? none will write. is there a covering i’m not seeing?
