To kids, these are toys, but kids learn best by doing. Ideally, all concepts would be first introduced in a concrete way. Unfortunately, they are often just get a worksheet. Using manipulative is a proven way to increase interest and ensure understanding. Must have if you homeschool young children k-3

My 5 year old was delighted to play with this set. There's a nice variety on offer which has kept him entertained most mornings this past week, making numberblock figures and making amazing creatures out of the pattern blocks The set comes in a plastic bag which in turn contains multiple bags with each 'manipulative' type in its own bag. Being critical, there's a lot of plastic bags here I'd have rathered seen these come in a box or something a little less wasteful. Also the instruction manual was bent given the lack of packaging. In the set you get: some base 100, base 10 and base 1 blocks for doing counting up to 1000; some Cuisenaire rods; some snap cubes (similar to their Math Link cubes but with a different connector type); pattern blocks which can be used to make bigger shapes; colour tiles and a geared clock (where if you move the minute hand the hour hand also moves). My 5 year old loved the pattern shapes, as there were enough of them to make some intricate shapes (see his insect he made in the pics) and also loved the snap cubes (as he loves Numberblocks and gave him an opportunity to make some shapes). I did think the colour tiles though we're a little basic even for Key Stage 1... I wasn't comfortable giving the set to my younger child though with all the small bits. The activity guide wasn't used in favour of using his imagination but there looked like some interesting exercises you could do in there. Overall £28 seems a lot to pay for some plastic and foam, but individually you can pay quite a bit for some of these items in isolation and may get far too many pieces whereas this set is just right for solo play. My son certainly has enjoyed using it so on that basis I recommend.

Love the learning resource products and this is a welcome addition to our collection. My, just turned 7 year old daughter has fallen behind in maths so we do extra activities with her at home. This set has proved invaluable in giving her a visual aid, especially when it comes to her larger subtraction sums and being able to show her the tens, breaking down in to units. It just wasn’t sinking in before. She is in year 2 and has started learning to tell the time and this clock is the same one that they use at school so very useful. Also, very handy to have for completing homework tasks! Highly recommend for key stage one maths!
