How bright is this headlamp? i don't understand the lumens rating. can i go hiking and biking at night in the pitch dark?

Not even close to 500 lumens Decent light, but definitely not 500 lumens...

Is there a display showing the charge status of the light?

I had replied that it just got redder on the back white screen of the battery case. I charged it a little longer the other day, and it did turn green. Evidently as you charge it, it will eventually turn green and then go to a red and lighter red as the charge decreases.
