Easy to make perfect rice.
Used it twice and I love it. At first I was thinking it was a stupid purchase because of the instructions. After using it my wife and I realized it was very simple to use and makes perfect rice. Unlike an electric rice cooker you will have to pay attention to the cooking process or you could burn the rice. Haven’t tried the microwave method yet but I will.

Dramatically improves flavor and texture of rice
I’ve always cooked rice on the gas stove; never transitioned to electric rice cooker. I was moved to try the donabe by favorable reviews. I usually cook Thai Jasmine rice and only infrequently short grain rice, but both come out very much better from the donabe. In fact, I don’t believe I have ever had rice so fluffy and plump, nor that tasted so good before I purchased the donabe. And I want to emphasize that the rice absolutely does taste very much better. This size donabe cooks enough rice for my wife and me (1.5 cups, uncooked). If you have a larger family, it would probably behoove you to consider a larger size. The down side: the instructions which accompanied the donabe were sparse and generally were only rough suggestions. Particularly frustrating were the Japanese measurements which I could only approximate. The donabe is very, very particular in the quantities of rice and water it requires, and even more so on the time/temperature profile which yields the best, outstanding results. The derivation of these were, for me, wholly by trial and error. It took about half a dozen attempts to work up the perfect recipe for my kitchen. I would have included my recipe here, but given different stove types and rice varieties, it’s probably best for you to develop your own.Overall, I cannot recommend the donabe highly enough. Just know it will take a couple of tries to get it perfect, but please take that time; the reward is so very well worth it. I wholeheartedly agree with the earlier reviewer that this donabe is like a living part of the kitchen, akin to a perfectly seasoned cast iron pan. Plus, there is something to be said about having to slow down, plan and experience the development of your rice’s flavor.

Does not work, prime return “trouble shoot” only option
THIS SELLER SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE “PRIME”. I need to return it, and no matter what reason I select for returning, even broken/missing parts, my only options are “troubleshoot on your own”. I spend thousands of dollars a year on Amazon, and I have NEVER run into this problem. I am VERY unhappy.

Perfect rice!
When my fuzzy logic rice cooker died after 23 years I bought a smaller, inexpensive one that ruined a lot of rice, so I decided to go old school but wasn’t having much luck with a saucepan. Time to satisfy my curiosity about donabe pots. I hesitated to buy this one because one of the reviewers questioned its authenticity, which made me wonder if it was going to hold up on the fire. The others I looked at were about three-four times the price so I took a chance on this and I’m delighted. It’s well made, nice looking, fun to use, and makes the right amount for 2-3 people. I followed the instructions exactly and got a perfect pot of sticky rice for my Thai curry. It cleaned up easily, too. I couldn’t be more pleased, and can’t wait to try some other types of rice.

Perfect Rice Every Time
This is an amazing piece of cookware I didn’t know I needed! It cooks rice perfectly every time. It does take a bit longer to make rice, but the results speak for themselves. I’ve given away my automatic rice cooker since it never held a candle to this wonderful pot!

Works great!
First donabe. Arrived in perfect condition. Directions are sparse but functional. See YouTube for more info on seasoning, care, and use. Yes, rice comes out shiny. A bit more work than using a modern rice cooker but fun for serving. Size is right for one to two people, depending upon everyone's appetite. Looks as if the donabe will last years if care is taken. Think of it as a living thing, sort of like a cast iron pan is a living thing.

Not my favorite
For the price I was expecting something a little better quality. The lids don't fit well at all. Each lid is almost too small and rattles around in its grooves. More like a 30$ pot than how expensive this was, I regret spending the extra money on this and it wouldn't let me return it.
