Wow. Everything you need. Simple.
I don't like giving early reviews, but this book is serious. Everything you need and more, and made simple to understand. You can tell its well into its 9th edition by how well it's written. The flow of the format and how it leads up to other things is clear from the first couple of chapters.Well done, and thank you for this book.It seem like I'm waffling out me arse, but it really is a good book. 🤌

Excellent nutrition & info
This dense book is so packed with ALL the info you need to get your nutrition right whatever your specific sport. It’s for everybody/everyone. I have the original edition which was a game changer years ago, and this massively updated edition far exceeds my expectation.

Cutting-edge research in a very accessible format
I've been reading Anita Bean's books and magazine articles for decades and she is masterful at making complex information easily accessible. The title of this book says it all, really - there's information on every conceivable nutrient, answers to many burning questions I've always had (it's official - running marathons doesn't lower your immunity, it's actually all that shoulder to shoulder jostling and travelling to the start that does!) and even a host of fantastic recipes (can't wait to try Vegetable Tagine with Chickpeas).Anita really knows her stuff and the book is packed with references that back up all of her claims. I also love the clean layout of the book and the colour-coded sections which make it easy to use as a reference book. A fantastic book for every athlete - and active person!

It has everything!
Final year nutrition student and wanting to pursue a career in sports nutrition, this book is amazing. With all the up to date references and research all in one place. The presentation of the information is great. It is currently going everywhere with me to help with my assignments. My only wish is that I could have purchased it sooner:)

UK publication - questionable ingredients, calculator etc
I somehow missed that this is a UK publication. After seeing the positive reviews, I decided on this book vs another publication by a well known US author. This is NOT my first dive into nutrition for athletes.I started to read it slowly from the beginning; I immediately noticed the calorie calculator - if I only ate what those mathematical procedures allow me to, I couldn't get through half a day.At some point I skipped over to the recipes. I don't recall if Ms Bean is a nutritionist, but I do know that sugar is responsible for most of inflammatory health problems, and that canola oil is NOT recommended either (rapeseed in the UK)From that I wonder how much other questionable advice is given and regret having spent money on this.

Best book I've encountered on sports nutrition
This book is outstanding! The best I've encountered on sports nutrition. Well written and extremely well organized. Hits the informative sweet spot providing in depth explanation without getting too deep in the scientific weeds. The section on energy systems is the clearest explanation of this material I've found. Excellent resource for coach or athlete.

Easy to read
Been looking for a book that lays out all of the information in an easy to follow way and this one is it. It answers all of the questions that I had pertaining to how and when to eat to maximize the gains from my workouts. It even discusses supplements and vitamins and what aren't worth using. I really recommend this book.
