Q: How often to you have to change battery?

The battery compartment was too small for the battery to fit inside it! The clock was cheaply made junk!

Q: Does anyone know how to get a refund, without having to pay for return shipment? The clock stopped working in a few months after delivery.

Normally you can get a return label from Amazon.

Q: Is the 12" the face of the clock or the outside diameter ?

the outside diameter is 12" if you measure across the front wood and all is is 10" if you measure across the back it is 12"

Q: Need a Clock that is able to withstand heat above a cooktop?

I don't know. Ours is ideal in our spare bedroom/office.
