Sharing the Passion
First of all, this is a beautiful book written by someone who is passionate about the subject. There is nothing more pleasurable than talking to someone or reading a book by someone who is enthusiastic. The photos of the doll dresses made from vintage hankies, linens and trims are bright and cheerful. Even if you have no intention of repurposing hankies into doll dresses, it is enjoyable to see all the unique hankies and the way they have been transformed. It is true that there are only patterns/instructions for two dresses, a hat and a purse. However, I think this is sufficient. In my opinion, the purpose of this book is to share the author's enthusiasm and provide inspiration for the reader to create their own miniature works of art from vintage materials. And actually, these patterns provide a basic structure for making a multitude of different dresses. There is also a sewing tips section and a section providing the details for each of the dresses shown in the book.Since one of my pet peeves is print on coloured pages, I would like to add that while many of the pages do have a coloured background, it is a pale tint and the font is large and clear enough to easily read.I was pleasantly surprised by the whole book, and especially by the large, bright photos. I'm looking forward to making my own hankie couture and also to just relaxing while leafing through this beautiful book.

Hankie Couture by Marsha Greenberg
Hankie Couture is a really good book, lots of lovely clear photos and lots of ideas to copy. It also has patterns to trace over and instructions for making some of the dresses.

Hankie-licious!
Grab a cup of Earl Grey and some bon bons; you are in for a cherished visit with the little Hankie Couture ladies--and they are ladies!Marsha Greenberg, amazingly talented designer/seamstress extraordinaire, has made dozens of utterly charming little frocks, gowns, coats and nighties from vintage handkerchiefs and here she shares them with you! They are designed to fit Barbie-sized dolls. This book is bursting at the seams with style! With clever photography and a little ditty about Hankie Couture culture, every page is captivating. "Hankie Couture women embrace the lost art of casual correspondence. Each day, they write a letter or phone a friend just to say hello." This is about loveliness, whimsey, polish and what is almost forgotten, (but appropriate to the vintage of the hankies): lady-like qualities. Each page holds some wonderfully detailed little outfit and when you think you've seen your very favorite, the next page outdoes it! I've had this book for almost three weeks and I can't leave it alone! I am constantly seeing something new in it.Marsha even includes instructions for making your own hankie dresses! They are well-defined and something even a non-sewer can follow, especially if you read through them a few times as Marsha suggests. If you are still hesitant you may want to google the author's webpage for a close-up look at the treat that's in store for you. I have had hours of delight from this book and all my friends are enraptured with it, too.By the way, this is a high-quality, durable paperback in a size suitable to lie open--probably the best possible format for this type of book. The cover and pages have a smooth, satiny feel.Truly a delight for any woman of style, girls ages 7 and up, chic grandmas and people who just wanna have fun!
