Q: Could you use Skoon litter with this? It's a similar shape and function.

The ScoopFree gel litter started stinking extremely bad within 7-8 days. I have only one cat using the litter, but the stinking was unbearable. Had to replace after a week, tried again with another bag of scoopfree litter but it started stinking again after one week. After much research, I came up with the conclusion that only the scoopfree nonclumping gel litter is suggested. So I decided to give a try to the previous nonclumping litter that my cat used in the regular litter box that left no smell whatsoever, and no dust. It is the Special Kitty Premium Clay Litter from Walmart for $7 for 25 lbs, that would last a whole month even if you replace the litter every week. It works perfectly fine with the ScoopFree litter box, leaving no smell, letting it rake the poop just as the box is supposed to. The ScoopFree box saves me the hassle of everyday scooping, and the Special Kitty Premium Clay Litter saves me from the dreadful stinking of the ScoopFree Gel litter AND a lot of money!!

Thank you for this question. Our ScoopFree Litter Box is designed to use our unique crystal litter only. When using other types of litter besides the crystals, is runs into the risk of damaging the rake as it can not push it properly.

Q: Has anyone’s cat ever been hurt by the rake?

My cats tend to stand on the trap door as the rake moves; they are fascinated by it. Of course, this makes to motor stall, and pretty sure isn't good for the litterbox. As for the rake hurting a cat? If the cat sits in the box for the full cycle, I doubt the motor is strong enough to do serious damage since it can hardly lift a 6 pound cat sitting on the trap door. And the thing is loud enough and slow enough the cat knows the rake is moving and has plenty of time to get out of the way - about 15 seconds or so for the rake to move one direction - 15 seconds more for it to return.
