Great reel! Here fishy fishy fishy!
Smooth action and very solid! Not the most expensive in the world so I would say really great for it's price range!

Hard to beat for the price.
Penn has always produced quality reels. this is no exception. The difference here is the price tag. while most quality reels cost well over $100, this delivers great performance at 1/2 that. It is a little heavier than other reels, but it is well made, smooth and powerful enough to land almost anything. More drag and line capacity than you'll ever need. There are smoother lighter reels available, but be prepared to pay $100-$200 more. Highly recommend for new anglers or someone who needs more than one setup.

Durability
Sally crafted reel that I would buy again. Like with any surf gear, you have sufficiently loaded up with adequate test line to make sure it can work appropriately, but it always stands up to the test.

Lots of drag adjustment
I'm giving this a 4 at this time for the 8000 size. Fat, heavy reel, even with the graphite casing, the 8000 is a beast . Did the research: best budget, easy to maintain, take apart, grease, wd40. Not overly protected for saltwater, and you can hear those bearings. But hey.., you get what you pay for. And this is best budget-budget. The drag adjustment is Sweet! Tons of adjustment.. Nice clicky! I bought this reel to mainly boat pitch, but still do inshore and pull big fish off a pier. Paired it with the Shimano Talvera 7' 30-65 lb. A roll of the Dorisea 40 lb braid at 328 yards is perfect. Then all you need is a swivel and some leader. Very stoked at this point. However, I would probably recommend the 6000 size before this. I think it's probably lighter and a better size for doing inshore and offshore. (more versatility) The 8000 is a pig. lol Hope that helps. (will update this)

Great value for a superb reel from an age old fishing gear supplier.
Great reel. Perfect for my 7' Berkley Lightning Rod. I've used it on the last two trips and the smoothness,, casting is superb. Despite not having anti-reverse which I tend to prefer, I bought a second one because it performed so well. Caught my largest walleye of the season so far on it last Tues.

Best value reels around.
The Peen Pursuit is the only reel I will buy anymore. I have 2 Pursuit IV 6000s on my catfish rods and a Pursuit III 4000 on my inshore rod and love them. They are the perfect blend of value and quality especially in a world where good inexpensive import brands exist. All the Penn quality at an agreeable price. They cast great, reel great, have good solid drag. Not too heavy like some other reels I've had. I just wish they made a 1000 size Pursuit for my ultra light gear!

You don’t need to spend more!
I have 4 Penn spin fishers, several Penn slammer 360s, and countless other reels. I actually got 5 of these for $28 and took a chance. Frankly, these work much better than my slammers. I don’t think the slammers were maid for braid. The line lay was poor, and the line kept sliding under the drag knob. I also got 3-4 wind knots. I decided to break out one of the Penn Pursuits (4000 version) and used the same Kast King 15 pound braid with a 5 foot Segaur Blue Lable 15 pound leader. It performed flawlessly when paired with a 7 foot Kast King Peregee II medium action rod. Perfect balance and light. I loaded the braid almost to the lip with no issues on a windy day. As noted above, I have my choice of numerous reels. For freshwater bass fishing, this is going to be my go to reel for Kayak fishing. Even though it seems a little large for bass, it’s very light and eliminated wind knots. Also the drag (HT-100) performed flawlessly for the ~15 or so bass I caught on it. This reel will do everything I will need for freshwater fishing. The light weight was noticeable for a 1/2 day of casting. It was superior to the slammer reel all the way around. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it wasn’t even close. I will repurpose the slammer for trolling or live bait fishing.
