My 3 & 4 year olds have just finished up this set of books (Beginning 1 & Beginning 2.) I'm not a huge believer in pushing academics at a young age, but this has been a fun set of books. My little guys see their older siblings working all day (we homeschool) and they wanted books of their own. We own many books from the Critical Thinking Company and I enjoy most of them, so I figured these were worth a try! When you open the book you will think it looks rather simplistic. The pages have nice big pictures and do not have huge amounts of content. *However* - there are many concepts covered in this series in a great spiral approach that builds/connects. The topics cycle through algebra, geometry, probability, basic operations etc. On a very basic level of course! You should still find it useful even if your child already knows their first numbers/shapes/and counting. I appreciate that no teacher's manual is needed and that the pages are bright, colorful, and quick to do. I want my kids to think of math as fun and engaging from the get go! Great resource to have and easy to use, we've enjoyed it and I feel it's been beneficial.

We pair Mathematical Reasoning with Math Mammoth for our core math curriculum in our homeschool. This Beginning 2 workbook is for preschool and one of the best curriculum for math in our opinion. It is from The Critical Thinking Company which is a widely known and loved in the homeschool community. The pages are bright and colorful and with not so much on the page that it overwhelms the child. It's thorough with math concepts and all the instruction is right on the page. So for older students that can read well will have no problem for the most part in doing this curriculum independently. My youngest has completed Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 and 2 and Level A for kindergarten and I think they have prepared her very well for starting Math Mammoth Level 1 for first grade this year. Both of my girls use Mathematical Reasoning and Math Mammoth as said above and they work wonderfully together. While they are learning bite sized pieces of information of the concepts in Mathematical Reasoning because it takes a spiral approach, they get a good idea of a concept before getting to that chapter in Math Mammoth which is a mastery curriculum.

I highly recommend this book. My daughter is 3.5 and really enjoys this book. I like to use it as a teaching tool, therefore some concepts are made to be explained and taught, then they reoccur in the book to further help the child grasp the concepts. It is very colorful and fun to look at and you can adjust it for your child if they are a little younger in age. There are a few things that are too intensive for my 3.5 year old, so we will skip and come back to those things at a later date, but it is a book that grows with her and is also challenging. It is expensive and since I have other children I unbound the book and put them in page protectors for multiple time use. Highly recommend.

It is a good book for the price and what it covers. My 4 almost 5 year old daughter has been working through it with me. Some of the language used doesn't make sense to her. Such as numeral and line segment. I understand that they are wanting to use correct math language from the very beginning but without explaining the words to my daughter she would struggle.

Our 5 year old loves to learn. He is finishing up prekindergarten and our daughter preschool. We purchased beginner 1 for her to give so extra practice and help for our daughter. She loved it and it helped her understand things a little better and even challenged with word problems in there. We purchased this one orginally for her because she was flying thru the first one. We decided to let our son do this first because he loves learning and to him it was like an activity book he learned some from it and had fun doing it. I do like the mixture of activities the books have in them. I love how they introduce word problems and other math concepts in a simple way to get kids ready to start thinking thru that type of math. I would recommend these in addition to other things to teach your child math or supplement if they need a little extra practice outside of school. I do think they're a bit expensive but it is a good size workbook still.
