I am using this on a houseboat as the head was rather smelly when I bought it. Odor absorbent gels in the bathroom, Febreze standing by, it wasn't awful but it was enough that I wasn't ok with the smell. My realtor recommended this stuff and it worked really well. It's expensive but it works, you just have to remember to add the additional scoop every other day or so. I keep looking for other treatments that might be cheaper but I hesitate as I *know* this one works. Update March 2021: I use this product almost exclusively. However I can get it for 15 dollars a bottle cheaper at a local store. I couldn't live here without this stuff, but I'm paying 20 a piece vs 33 dollars at the time of this update. I say it's worth it's weight in gold, but I didn't mean that literally. Edit: I got the black water tank flushed out and the smell is totally gone. I am using this as directed to help keep it that way. Update Jan 2024 -- I've moved out of the boat and I used this the whole five years. I am even leaving some behind for the new owner so they don't deal with the issues I did when I first moved in. I live in a house now but I do have an older RV, and I will be using this there also.

I live on my sailboat and so my holding tank and sanitary plumbing sees more use that a boat that is only sailed on weekends. Over time I have had issues with sludge build up . Phosphoric acid helps with crystalline deposits but this stuff addresses the organic sludge the builds up over time. When I saw how effective it was with the black water waste system I also tried using a little bit of it in sink drains and was very impressed with how much foaming and hose cleaning that took place. There was a lot more gunk in the gray water drains than I realized. Every two weeks the pump out service empties my holding tank. After that happens I put one scoup of this stuff in the toilet at night and pump just enough water through to move it into the pump and hoses to keep things clean.
