Vigil [DVD] [2021]

I bought DVD after watching series on TV. Excellent story with many twists. Good cast of Suranne Jones and Shaun Evans as well as other well known co-stars. It was good that the story was on land as well as at sea and the suspense worked well because you realised that the crew had no escape route. Highly recommend.

I am amazed at the small number of reviewers who felt that it was boring and rubbish. I thought that it had pace, intrigue, the claustrophobic darkness of the submarine, and some brilliant acting. I was not too keen on the relationship portrayed, but I am a little old fashioned, admittedly. There is always a threat from other countries, and I am sure that many potential threats are prevented without us even knowing.Thank goodness.I thought that it showed - yet again - the antagonism and mistrust shown to women who dare to do their job properly, and even better than their male counterparts. I recognised the opening theme music immediately- a danish singer called Agnes Obel. The haunting melody enhanced the mystery and fear of the series. Excellent and worth watching again, sometime.

At my age I find it difficult to watch a serial on a weekly basis, so tend to go for the DVD. I am glad I did with VIGIL. A spanking pace, twists and turns, mystery and a surprising amount of action make this an enjoyable watch. The sets for the submarine are amazing. In my ignorance it looked extremely real and claustrophobic (which of course is what our hero cop suffers from - claustrophobia - never mind wondering why she was sent, just go with the flow, which you really do have to do as the many characters and plot machinations require a certain element of acceptance.) The acting is very good and it was lovely to see Anjil Mohindra as an adult after first seeing her in the SARA JANE ADVENTURES and thinking - Yes, she should do well!. We watched all 6 eps over 3 nights and just about kept up with the plot. Great fun. One minor, personal quibble - Why did the writers include a gay relationship between Jones and Leslie. Both are very good actresses, but sadly failed to convince me. Why couldn't they just have been partners like....My mind goes blank, but Suranne was one and ? was her cop partner.

It came well packaged and on time.Enjoyed it.

Not many series are set on submarines I'm not sure if one ever has been set onboard our nuclear deterrent, fewer still show the modern tactical, political and human situations they are currently used in, throw in a police investigation and you have mayhem. I can't see how they can make a series two unless they have a murder on a foreign sub or a frigate coming in for refuel. But I greatly enjoyed this one and greatly recommend it.

Non-stop thrill ride from the beginning,kept you wanting more each week so great to be able to watch the full series on DVD now.Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are excellent and the supporting cast also do a fantastic job. Bit predictable in places but enough action to keep most people entertained and a bit of agonising romance thrown in for good measure! Loved it

Unusual setting on this DVD. Very good thriller, good actors. Delivery on time.
