Big Book of Bugs Hardcover – August 1, 2000

My five year old daughter LOVES all the tiny cute creatures she finds in the garden. Needless to say she also loves this book! The large pictures enable her to get a close-up view of her little friends while learning which ones are safe to touch, and which ones to avoid. She knows more about bugs than me, so this gives her a great opportunity to point at the pictures and say, "This one does..." or "That one is..." and as we read on I find she knows exactly what she's talking about :DThere is new information in here for her, as insects she hasn't seen before, like the Floral Mantis, are featured. This book has an intelligent approach, giving facts in short, confident paragraphs that children will remember. The large headings enable early readers to look at the insect names and memorise them.As an adult artist I will be also using the images here to learn the anatomy of the insects, and its not a bad casual introduction to creepy crawlies for a person of any age. I think this book best suits children from five to eight years. All in all, a great family resource.

The "big" in the "Big Bug Book" title is appropriate. The book is huge. Both my kids (3 & 6) love this book, as do I. We also gave it as a gift with some little bugs to another big lover.

What to do with a 4 year old that loves bugs? Buy him the Big Book of Bugs! My grandson loves bugs of any type and kind and most days you can find him in the back yard looking for all sorts of insects. He is very inquisitive of them and bought him this book to further discovery other bugs and creepy crawly things.Very vivid, up close photos make this a book for all bug and insect lovers, young or old. The narration is not too descriptive to where a young child cannot understand what is being read. What I really like about the book is the very up close photos showing detail of a bugs face and body. Amazing photos!The Big Book of Bugs is one of my grandson's favorite books and he looks at it every day.

It’s big, It has beautiful and good quality photos and are explained very easily but I think is poor information and It have just a few insects per page. Only has 31 pages. I would prefer a more complete book next time. It’s perfect for beginers.

LOVED all the large photos and so did my great grandson as soon as he opened his Birthday present! He smiled and his eyes opened wide.Very informative and got him talking about some bugs he knows about! He cannot read all the narrative yet, but it will be read to him and I'm sure he will treasure this book as he grows up.

My four year old kisses the front cover every time he picks this book up - he absolutely loves the big pictures inside and even at his age the text is easy to understand but not made for children only - very fun to read it with him and he spends ages happily discovering new things in the expertly illustrated book - a real gem which I totally recommend to anyone who has a kid who loves bugs!
