Handy Scout Handbook
I bought this handbook to further my education of outdoor life and emergency planning. There is a ton of helpful information and because I am a girl I never got to go to Scouts. I will be studying the guide for skills I need to sharpen and just for entertainment. The projects will be a nice way to spend an afternoon. The transaction for this book was smooth and the package arrived in a timely manner.

What a disappointment
I will add to the many other unfavorable reviews. As best I can tell, the "publisher" took a very old Boy Scout manual and hand-keyed the text into a word processor, hoping (I guess) to trick the potential buyer into thinking it was an up-to-date book. But then what to do with the illustrations? The "publisher" scanned them and pasted them into the word processor file. The honest way to do this would have been to say so. Say that "as a service to the reader, we have reproduced etc." And then the honest thing would have been to state the year (from the copyright notice, if nothing else) of the book from which this text and these illustrations were copied. Instead the reader who has gotten part way through the book, and who has figured out that something is very wrong with the book, is left to thumb backward and forward in the book to try to figure out the year of the book.

A MUST HAVE
My grandson recently joined Boy Scouts. He asked for a Boy Scout uniform and the Boy Scouts Handbook for Christmas. He was very excited to received this handbook. He said "It's bigger than the one the other boys have". I enjoyed looking through it myself before wrapping it up for him.

I didn't get what I wanted
I thought I was getting the 2012 edition of the Boy Scout Handbook (for my brand-new scout!), but it turns out this is a 2012 reprint of the handbook from the early 1900's. It did say that in the fine print, but I missed it the first time. The book is interesting to read, but now I have to buy ANOTHER book to get my son what he needs.

WRONG BOOK!
I recently became a scout leader and wanted to have the current version of the scout handbook, so I bought the Kindle version thinking this was it. And at $2.99, what a bargain, right? Wrong. This is the original 1911 version. Really? How is this helpful to current scout leaders? And after so many reviews criticizing the practice of not clearly indicating-- at least as far as three years back-- in the description that this is not the current handbook, one would think Amazon would have fixed this by now. I would never have read the reviews before purchasing the book anyway (I only read them AFTER I realized it was the wrong book to see if others had the same issue), because it doesn't matter what others think of the book-- I still need it. Now I'm stuck with a book I don't need, and I still have to go out and by the current book. Waste of money. C'mon Amazon. Fix this please.

boy scout handbook
it is pretty helpful in general terms, covering the basics of camp etiquette. I was surprised to find the boys games, those games are awesome and add a great source of activities to camping in a way I had not thought of before..

not what I remember
When I received this book I was disappointed in the contents, I bought it to give to my daughter to study camping and survival skills, it was not at all like the one I used to use as a kid, the merit badge section is vague, little information and complex. I have been out of the BSA loop for years but I feel this book lacks what I had as a teen

Very misleading - do not buy
As a Boy Scout HandbookWhen they state that this product is "the official handbook of the Boy Scouts of America", they omit that this is the original handbook, not the current handbook. They used deliberately ambiguous language to conceal this fact. They do not have copyright information or a publisher's page - I suspect whoever thought of the scam is ashamed to put their name on it.I'm guessing this is technically legal, with the original handbook's copyright expired, but do not buy this product. As a historical artifactThe diagrams are scanned poorly, and are small, blurry, and the text is nearly illegible. The words from within the diagram are then repeated after the diagram without any punctuation or indication as to where in the diagram they're from, making for bizarre reading until you figure out what they did. There is (of course) no discussion of the history of the handbook or indeed, any attempt to add value to this product at all.
