Are these sweatpants warm?

I bought a black one. Needless to say, it's very warm. The fleece interior and elastic tapered cuff are perfect. It is a great choice for winter and I like to wear them at home. Of course, I also wear them for outdoor activities to keep warm and stylish.

Do these run on the smaller or larger size? I'm not sure which one to choose between M and L.

Im usually a medium and sometimes even a large in bottoms. I got my pair in M and they were the perfect size. But that also means they weren’t slightly baggy like I expect joggers to be. I could have gotten a size L actually. I might buy it in L so I have a baggier pair to go with this just-right fit pair

Would these be suitable for cross country skiing?

They are not waterproof. They would be warm and cozy under waterproof pants. I have skied and I tend to get wet from the snow so I would not recommend them for skiing.

Do the sweatpants shrink after a wash?

No but I wash them on the gentle cycle and hang to dry
