Excellent garden tool!
The EZ Kut pruning shears work great! The ratchet function facilitates cutting larger branches. I find no problem with the locking mechanism. It is placed where it is out of the way and not that hard to access. Would buy again....well I did!

Solid tool
My brother gave me a pair of EZ Kuts well over 10 years ago. They are hands down one of my favorite tools for yard work, hunting, fishing, camping, etc. Cuts through large branches with ease. Ergonomic. Fits in a back pocket. Had never required maintenance/sharpening. Great to bring hunting to quietly trim branches for lanes and also blinds. I've dropped them 4 miles into the woods before and went back to get them. I ordered a pair for my son for his birthday. I'm happy to see that the design and quality haven't changed. Thank you EZKut.

Appears to be well-made and sturdy
Update: It lasted five months almost to the day, after what I consider moderate use. Today while I was pruning, the rivet on the ratcheting mechanism broke, rendering the pruner useless. That's less than one-sixth as long as the cheaper Gonicc that I bought this more expensive pruner to replace, in hopes it was better made. Why on Earth don't these manufacturers use stronger metal for the rivet??? It's a tiny part of the device. Surely a more durable alloy for this minuscule part wouldn't make it cost significantly more. I bought this model to replace my second Gonicc ratcheting pruner to break on me, hoping the more expensive EZ Kut model will last longer. I loved the Gonicc — easy to use, a comfortable fit, with a very convenient and easy locking-unlocking switch — but the rivet on the ratcheting mechanism broke on each of them after about three years of use and there's apparently no way for a person without special equipment to replace the rivet. I tried replacing the rivet with thick wire, but its performance was unacceptably poor. After a few days of use, I can report that this EZ Kut does its pruning job well and is a good fit for my large-size hand, even while wearing leather gardening gloves. The locking-unlocking mechanism, however, is NOT easy to use. With the Gonicc I could lock and unlock quickly with my thumb on the hand I use to prune, turn the pruner upside-down, and pocket it with ease, all in one smooth, fast motion, sort of like a gunslinger in a western movie holstering his gun. With the EZ Kut I have to stop everything I'm doing, use both hands, and struggle to get it unlocked. Locking is a bit easier. I hope to get the hang of it soon. As to whether the rivet (and other parts) will outlast that of the Gonicc, time will tell.

Cuts like a hot knife through butter.
I needed to replace my chain link fence and the old fence was covered with vegetative growth. Small trees, vines, and more. Fence company said it would have to be removed before they could install new fence. I hurt my hand earlier in the year and it has never been the same since. Tried to do the work with others brands but my hand couldn’t take it. I bought EZ Kut because I thought the ratchet pruners would help with my hand. It sure did. After clearing the fence my hand still felt great. No pain, no stiffness, and cleared off fence. If you have arthritis, hurt hand, or just want an easier tool to prune with EZ Kut is the tool to do it. It cut small trees up to an 1 to 2 inches like butter. Thanks EZ Kut for saving my hand and money.

Not a functional pruner
These pruning shears are the worst I've ever had in over 40 years. They never ratcheted fully with 3 clicks, always tore my cuts when pruning and were a great disappointment. Also, the insides fell apart at month 5. Would not recommend or purchase again.

I Asked And EZ Kut Listened -- Now Available In Pink!!!
I work outside in hot and humid Southwest Florida all year around. I have 2.75 acres of landscaped yard and another few acres of wetlands that need constant attention to "weed" the invasive plants out and to trim the mangroves to maintain our water view. So I go through a lot of gardening tools but must stress to potential buyers that there is no "perfect" pruner. All of them break within a year or so. Any tool with moving parts will fail : those with inferior materials and construction will fail quicker. My job is to determine which pruners are easier to use -- and then buy a new one when the original breaks. The EZ Kut does what it says it will do. It is well built out of good materials, comes with a sharp (and heavy) blade, and is especially effective on green wood. The ratchet makes the tool more efficient and allows cleaner cuts with little effort. Dead wood poses a different problem and is usually handled with a small folding saw (Silky) or a lopper. My only suggestion is that the company offer this pruner in easy-to-see colors like fluorescent orange, lime green, or even bright yellow or red. I occasionally drop my tools in the wetlands and sometimes have a very difficult time finding them again. Everything on the ground has earth tones so having a splash of color on your tools makes them stand out, even in dirty water. I spray most of my tools with a fluorescent orange paint to make dropped tools easier to find. Is anyone listening out there? This is a simple fix that you can be one of the few to use to improve your tools. NOTE 02/25/2017: Today was the day that I dropped it and couldn't find it! I like this tool enough that I would order it again -- but not until it is offered in yellow, orange, red, or some other color that will make it easy to see when dropped. This is a simple enough fix in changing the color applied at the manufacturer. Just to be totally ironic, I also found an old (and severely rusted) Esee machete while poking around looking for the EZ Kut. It has obviously been lying there for at least one year and probably longer. PLEASE -- PLEASE -- PLEASE produce this good product in bright colors! NOTE 05/12/2017: THE COMPANY CONTACTED ME TODAY AND LET ME KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOW OFFERING THIS PRUNER IN PINK! THAT OUGHT TO STAND OUT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT RECOVERABLE IF DROPPED. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING EZ KUT! Be careful when handling this pruner. I dropped it today and caught it in mid air. Unfortunately I caught it by the blade! Surprise, surprise, I almost cut the tip of my finger off. When I went inside I was so intrigued that I tried the paper test with the blade and this pruner was sharp enough to actually pass the test. This test is usually only passed by very sharp knives and tomahawks. Lesson learned.

I rated it so high as the delivery time was excellent. This is a Christmas gift so have no idea if it is a good purchase or not, certainly looks OK.

These shears work quit well and do the job I asked them to do. Have had no issues using them at all. They can handle a sizable cut and are strong and easy to use.
