The Book of Virtues for Young People: A Treasury of Great Moral Stories

Although this book is aimed at "young people" and for ages "10 and up" it is a wonderful, interesting, uplifting, thought-provoking, and fantastic read for adults as well! I love this book - I'm 29 years old and I enjoy every fable, tidbit, short story, and examples from history that demonstrate virtues in this book. Easy to read, but not childlike at the same time. I am applying what I have learned from this book in my daily life and life feels so much better to me. I was taught honesty, responsibility, and other "virtues" as a child, but never was exposed to it via short stories and this route of learning. I love this book and highly recommend it to adult individuals of all ages, parents, teachers - EVERYONE. Get a copy for yourself and/or give as a gift. I can't say enough about positive things about this book! :)

This book is a great book for anyone. As it says, it is a book of virtues. Similar to Aesop's fables, in that there is always a moral of the story, but there the stories are geared towards moral improvement, and the betterment of one's self. It also is fun to read. Some of the stories are especially funny. This book gives me hope reading it!

We have always been Bill Bennett fans in our house and this book did not disappoint. We bought this for our son who is turning 13 to inspire and provoke thoughtful conversations. The book is full of stories and poetry broken down into 10 categories. (ie.courage, work, honesty, loyalty) This book is written so that an adolescent could read it themselves or it is also very well suited as a read aloud. I would recommend this book to anyone from 8 to 108.

This is simply a selection of stories from the original Book of Virtues, which I also have. I ended up preferring to make my own selections for our granddaughter out of the original book, so I really didn't need to buy this book.

Children (and adults) of today are in great need of traditional values, and this book does a wonderful job of teaching about them in a mixture of stories, poems and anecdotes. It was hard for my younger children to get into, but much better as they got older.

Bill Bennett has done it again with The Book of Virtues For Young People. Reading the stories aloud to my children is an excellent way to talk about and open the discussion of the important virtues brought to light in this book. History, fantasy, poetry are all included in this marvelous book. The stories gently lead and guide young minds to WANT to do the right and to understand why. I highly recommend this to parents and children of all ages!

Every child should have these storeis read to them when young, and to read on their own later. It makes me think of my grandmother, who told us stories about "crying wolf", and "birds of a feather flock together", and the tale of the industrious ants and the carefree and workfree grasshopers. The ants and the grasshoppers helped us learn about the benefits of storing up food for the future. She helped us learn that it was not only food which must be set aside for future need. It also became apparent that there are a lot more grasshopper style of living than there are 'ants'.

This book is a lovely compilation of stories that showcase virtue. It’s not only a nice read for young people, but adults as well. A soothing read. A very nice philosophical book.

This book is really well laid out. Many virtues like honesty, friendship, work, and others have great stories that give a meaning to these ideas. As a parent it is great to have stories that are historical and mythological to show how important living a life by a good moral code is. I read the book first and now I can pick stories to read at various times. We can talk about them afterward and talk about what William Bennett had to say about each virtue. It is important to have book like these to help focus ourselves on what truly matters in life.
