Memoir Writing For Dummies

I'm a writer. I've written only one book (self help), but its sold well over 20,000 copies and I'm super grateful about that. People have been pushing me to write a memoir, but I've had lots of reservations and questions. This book covered them all, PLUS gave me unlimited inspiration.I think its sad that these books are titled, "for Dummies." What it seems to mean is that they get to the point, and do it simply, thoroughly, and efficiently. I've researched a lot of books on memoir writing, and for me, this one tops them all.

Im writing a memoir or going to try to. So this book is perfect. I love it!

Still haven’t dived into this because I’m a huge procrastinator. I’ve procrastinated writing the book and now here I am still not read this to start writing. Sorry but that’s the best I have. I’m sure it’s easy to read. I’ll come back in a week and review it once I get off my butt and actually do something

Very detailed, i needed formatting more then anything. Im a filmmaker so I have an advantage. I will have a professional memoir editor be the one to do the heavy work. But this was very informative

I love most books in the For Dummies series and have used many of them with excellent results. For me, this one just missed the mark in almost every way. Most of the exercises that are suggested to recall events or to stimulate memories are far too juvenile and border on being silly. (And this comes from someone whose humor often borders on being silly).Are there any ideas in the book that are worthwhile? Not in the sense of helping you specifically with writing a memoir. There are some writing basics that have tried and true details that are in almost every book on writing ever written but they do not specifically deal with Memoir Writing.I gave this book to a friend who has been writing her memoirs. A week later, she gave it back with a one-line review. I won't repeat that here, but will say she was not impressed.

I didn't expect much, but was happily surprised. This book is FULL of very practical advice outlined in an organized and clear way. I teach a course on Writing Memoir and this is my new favorite source.

If you are writing a memoir, or contemplating writing a memoir, you need to order this book immediately! I have read many books on memoir, and there are some good ones, but this is by far the most practical, step-by-step book. Very easy to read, very thorough. You will be hooked, and you will want to get to your computer and start writing!

This book is just what I was searching for. I am thinking about writing a personal memoir but didn't have a clue how to go about it. This book has guided me into all the areas that I was hesitant to enter. I will refer to this book many times as I polish my book which I have already started writing.

Autobiography remains unwritten. I have skimmed the chapters and seems good if you are dedicated to the task!
