Yes, this is both a fresh and salt water reel. In fact the new Pursuit IV is PENN’s most modern and improved spinning reel designed for saltwater. Thanks for PENN using SEALED BALL BEARINGS and getting away from the Shielded Ball Bearings as used in the pursuit Iii, Fierce 3 or Battle 3. It’s actually more corrosion resistant than the SpinFiasher because Sealed bearings are what Slammer uses. Penn is making a huge improvement with sealed roller bearings in the Pursuit 4. As the other models are redesigned, I’m sure Penn will be replacing the shielded bearings with sealed.

most definitely, I use all mine in salt water, just be sure to hose rod and reel down after each fishing trip, and i use a shot of real magic on reel
