UPDATE after 2nd bag ...this lot is losing its magic and getting stale fast! BEWARE!
Update end of NOV-24 After my first review (below) I was excited to buy it again...but disappointed that it is the same lot as before with same expiration and it has lost a lot of its zip and deeper flavor. Had to use more coffee for a decent cup and it no longer makes great espresso. It is going stale!!! Beware!!!! You can still get away with cold brew ...but that was it. If they roast another lot of this...I am in. but this lot has date left on the expiration date shown...just little flavor left in the bag...and is oxidizing by the day...CAVIAT EMPTOR! (ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 1ST PURCHASE EARLIER IN YEAR FOLLOWS BELOW): I loved this stuff! First of all finding a dark roast JBM coffee is a challenge, but fining one that has this flavor profile may be impossible. The beans could be a little fresher (they are not stale). They taste delicious and have the distinctive taste of my favorite Arabica coffee variety which is called Typica. It is the same bean used in Kona and many other superlative volcanic soil coffees. I knew it was the real deal when I smelled it after grinding. This can take a fine grind and not turn to dust. It works very well as a single origin espresso due to its dark slow roast and its mild and full bodied Typica genetics. This may seem pricey but Jamaican Blue Mountain is expensive for the same reason Kona is...it is not a large volume plant....but the best one IMO...it originates in SE Ethiopia and Yemen from volcanic mountain soils. Love this coffee!!

The coffee is good; The Trader is better!
My thoughts on Green Coffee Trader's Jamaican Blue beans, which I've had before - and the fact that Amazon sent me Kona beans instead. This was not the seller's fault, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the Jamaican Blue that I sent to the seller: I swear I never intended to become a coffee snob; I only wanted to attain the level of "Coffee Arrogance", with a mastery in coffee brewing and a secondary mastery in Mercantile Trading. I specialize in the exchange of coffee beans (for my personal use and enjoyment) in exchange for mutually acceptable currency. My first experience with the Jamaican Blue coffee beans instilled within me a palette for coffee with a permanent buff triggered by the elixir of the Jamaican Blue coffee bean. Consumption of the elixir of the Jamaican Blue bean provides me with +5 RELAXATION and +5 CONSTITUTION buffs. Offering the Elixir of the Jamaican Blue beans to others also provides a + 5 CHARISMA boost. Wizards, Witches, and Muggles alike aspire to attain the Jamaican coffee bean, the highest quality of which are obtained from a small region of the Blue Mountains on the eastern side of the island and grow at an elevation of 2,000 to 5,500 feet above sea level. Travelers and traders beware! The only merchant to be trusted to deliver the finest, authentic coffee beans is Green Coffee Traders. Their trade routes are swift and secure. One only need to be wary of the final handoff, from the shipper who must offer it to the Monolithic Monster of the Amazon who cares nothing of my satisfaction with the end product. The Monolithic Monster of the Amazon thrives on quantity, not quality. When this conglomeration of a corporate monster rears its ugly head and does not deliver as it should, one can only cower and run away - hoping to deliver a message to the forthright merchant whose initial shipment was offered to the monster. Unfortunately, the Amazonian monster lost its shipment within the mazes of the Forest of Fulfillment. My complaint is not with thee, kind merchant and seller. My feud lie with the horrid Amazonian monster, spawn of the two demons “Ordering” and “Shipping”. It is this evil offspring which has curtailed the successful completion of my order and your mission. Kind merchant, please consider trading the lovely story above for a quantity of The Magic Blessed Blue Beans of Jamaica. The beans are considered magical by those possessing the ability to appreciate their scent, their beauty, and the wondrous elixir which yields from its beans. [p.s. To readers: I'm getting my Jamaican Blue beans. YAY!] Warm Regards, Keith, Bearer of The Blessed Mug of Coffee Arrogance

Good Coffee but not as smooth as the JBM I had when in Jamaica
On a recent Cruise through Central America, I collected coffee from all of our stops. Most of the locals will point you to their best coffee brands of which they are quite proud. When I got home I did a blind taste test of them all and while they were all very good the JBM was the smoothest and tastiest coffee. I have had JBM before and remember its smoothness and delicious taste. When it came time to buy some more coffee I decided, that's it, I don't drink that much coffee anymore so I may as well drink the best and ordered some JBM off of Amazon. While this was good, it was not great and I was a little disappointed spending that much and getting what I would call an above-average cup of coffee. I will continue to seek out where I can find the best JBM. Don't get me wrong, this had some of the aroma of JBM but not a lot of the flavor and it was more bitter. So I will chalk this up to a learning expense and continue my search for the best-tasting JBM Positives: - Nice cup of coffee, - Has some of the same smells as JBM - Convenient to buy, don't have to travel to Jamaica Negatives - Not as good as the coffee that I purchased in Jamaica - Just as expensive (about $40/lb) - Not as smooth and lacking some flavor Conclusions: Again, I was a little disappointed when I brewed this as I was hoping it would be the same quality of coffee as what I purchased while in Jamaica. I will continue to seek out better quality. I have a hard time justifying $40/lb for something that is not outstanding. In my opinion, this coffee is on par with other coffees from Central America. 4 Stars

WHY do they spend money and shipping weight on a nice cloth bag which I have to throw away?
It is very good coffee, but they're wasting money. They put it in a very nice cloth bag. That may be worthwhile when they sell it in a store, but it adds NO value to me AT ALL. I really dislike throwing away those nice bags, and the extra weight burns more CO2 in transit. I hope they'll Save the Planet and not spend money on those bags.

Will keep looking
Coffee is just okay. 30 years ago if you purchased Blue Mountain coffee it was guaranteed highest quality, but this coffee had a ghost of real jBM that I smelled only once as it escaped from the bag when I opened it, and then was unable to recoup that flavor in the beans’ aroma or from brewing the ground coffee. There were slight hints of balance teetering between notes of slight acidity and underwhelming mellow, but overall was missing the full flavor, which must have gone done like a shipwreck off the coast of Jamaica, as I was hoping for a bit of gold flavor. I will keep searching for other brands of JBM coffee and may update this review when I find it. I may be paying more, but once you’ve had the real deal, and you’re yearning for the world’s best coffee, nothing short of perfection will do.

Smooth medium roast
Well, if you decide to be fancy and buy a $40 bag of coffee beans because the internet says it’s one of the best, brace yourself for the ongoing expense of $40 bags of coffee beans😩 this coffee is absolutely perfect. It is on the milder side of flavor, but a nice medium smooth roast. It’s not acidic at all and has no horrible aftertaste. I am able to enjoy it black (no cream or sugar) because it’s that good. The only downside is 16oz of coffee beans doesn’t last very long. I bought this on February 22nd and here I am on march 6th thinking about reordering. I still have 5.3oz of coffee beans left, but I NEVER want to be without my coffee! EVER! I use between .3 and .5 oz of beans per 12 oz cup and I have two cups per day.

DO NOT BUY
I purchased this as a birthday present for my fiancé. She had never had blue mountain coffee and she and I are both connoisseurs. I've had several pounds of actual blue mountain coffee that a friend of mine used to pickup in Jamaica when she was doing her annual mission trips. She warned me that even in Jamaica you need to know who to buy from and what to buy to get the real thing. THIS IS NOT JAMAICAN BLUE MOUNTAIN COFFEE. That being said, the beans are also over roasted, and this stuff is as bitter as a cup of Maxwell House. It does not have the full body or complex taste typically associated with JBM either. The description is also ambiguous as to how it's roasted, in the brief description up top it says its a medium roast but down in the item description is says city roast. Those are two very different things and unfortunately this coffee is the latter. I thought to myself when ordering there's no way anyone would city roast JBM coffee. And rest assured they didn't as this isn't JBM coffee to begin with. Now I know why the seller has a no return policy on this stuff. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Very dissatisfied. This ITEM IS NOT AS REPRESENTED. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Way to ruin a birthday present.
