Great buy good home water filter easy to install

Paired this with two sediment pre filters. First one is 100 micron, then 40 micron, then into the Culligan. I'm using a 5 micron in the Culligan. As you can see, l have well water with lots of rust and clay sediment. I figured l better triple team the rust to KO it once and for all. Mission accomplished and at a very economical price. As you can see all appliances are new: new pressure tank, pressure tank switch, new brass tee, new check valve, new PEX tubing, new gauges, shut-off valves, water softener, Hot water heater, thermal expansion tank, all new! I bought a fixer upper home that was unfortunately neglected and the rust and sediment literally ruined everything. But that's all in the past now, great days ahead. Hooked 2 of them up in series (5 micron sediment then an activated charcoal) to “mostly” filter the iron laden well water that we use at camp. Installation was straightforward, but remember these are threaded plastic fittings so use 5 Teflon revolutions along with the best pipe sealant (I call it goop) you can buy. No leaks! The shutoff valve on top is very difficult to turn and until I read about it in other reviews I was pushing in the red button while turning the knob…... do not do this!! The manual didn’t explain things well or I would give it a 5 star rating. These units are superior in quality to similar GE units that I have purchased in the past.

Why buy this?: I live in an area that has wonderful water that is very clean and tastes good. I put this filter in my home because my house sits at the low point in the system, and during the winter months when they have to shut the above ground lines down, I'm also the end of the line for the system. Every water system will have valves, etc. rust and even biological contaminates in them. This filter and housing are perfect for removing those particulates and helps with scaling in appliances.Does it work?: Yes it does. I have no more particulate getting caught in the screen for my washing machine for example. It didn't reduce the water pressure in my home either. I saw that as a concern while researching whole house water filters and it did not. I have a pressure reducer coming into the house as well, that I installed the filter after in the water line, and no change in pressure.Easy to install?: Could be. I watched the install video on Amazon and read the directions. What can make the install super easy is two things.1. Buy SharkBite fittings. They have them on Amazon. Just make sure you buy the correct ones. Humans in hardware stores are great at finding the right ones for you. They are a bit pricier than standard fittings but well worth it. I put the SharkBite fittings on the filter housing first, so I had plenty of room (I installed the filter in a crawl space) and I could make sure the threads weren't crossed. Lastly, with SharkBite connections make sure you measure the distance between the connections on the filter twice (subtracting for the depth where the pipe slides into the connector) before cutting your water line.2. Choose a spot in the line where you can give yourself a little room to play with. Then you basically slide the filter in place on the line.Prep took 10 minutes and install too 15. Zero issues, the easiest plumbing work I have ever done.The fives stars for the flavor rating are for the water, the filter and housing taste awful.

I bought this to replace a DuPont whole house filter that started to leak. No idea what caused the leak after going through several O-rings, so I decided to replace the entire unit.Installation took me about 45 minutes to an hour because I needed to cut some of the copper and fit the unit.On the inlet side I have a soldered MIP copper fitting, and on the outlet side I used Watts Aqualock brass fitting which was extremely simple.The unit is solid. I like the clear housing so that I can see exactly how much sediment is in the cartridge and not guessing with a non-transparent one.I was intimidated at first (no idea why as I had installed the first filter, a water softener, and a water heater previously), but this was super easy and I feel a good value.

So you need a good filter with pressure release, bypass and off valve that common elements will fit, this is your ticket. I have owned other brands of this design of filter that were disappointing due to weak thin bodies, poor mounting arrangement, o-rings leaking and female thread of heads splitting due to force of the tightened taper threaded. The Culligan overcomes all these common problems with strong rigid bodies, excellent mounting bracket, well seated o-ring between body and head. Finally while the head is plastic they wrap the outside diameter of the female threads so the plastic body is captured in a band of stainless steel to prevent it from expanding to point of splitting. Pretty smart idea to keep the cost down and quality up. As with ANY plastic head that is threaded it is amazingly easy to get your threads off track and have cross threading as it is called. That is because when you wrap the male threads of the nipple with Teflon tape they become more shallow so be extra careful to start them straight and keep them straight but be sure to use a lot of Teflon tape, that is the only way they will seal. Do not use dope, paste of any kind. I used stainless steel nipples and bushings, I do not recommend using PVC nipples but that is me. I have attached a photo of my install under the kitchen sink so you can see the bracket and etc. Mine did not come with the timer, as advertised, but I never them anyway so that is why you see an open attachment area. I used it here because I did not want to have a special separate faucet for pure water. This filter give me plenty of flow and water improvement and I just pipe it to the cold water side of the main faucet. I use an element that removes the sediment, chlorine and other bad taste.
