Im 5'4" about 5 months post partum (c section) and am weighing about 165 to 170 ....should i do the s-m or l-xl???

I would recommend a S/M for you since I am 220lbs n fit perfectly into L-XL you are smaller so you should fit into the smaller one, but given you have an injury in that area it's up to you if you want more space and something not too tight, these are very light weight either way.

Is this the best brand? The quality of how?

The quality is not great. They are thin cotton/polyester shorts. They are not going to hold you end. If you have any issue you can return to China.

What fabric is it? Does it have compression？

I got a size large as I usually do in leggings and they’re very stretchy and comfy, but zero compression. I’m able to wear them while pregnant too and still feel very comfortable. They’re high enough to go over small baby bump with room to still stretch

Are these too warm to sleep in?

It is made from polyester and spandex, but it is really soft and comfy similar to cotton. I'd to try and it was fine.
