Really fun build, but I got it last year for $100 less.
I got this tow truck last fall, was a really fun build. I built slowly to really enjoy it and put it together over about 3 weeks. I got it when it was $155.00, not sure I would but it for $267 tho. For the money, I would probably go with the lego tree house.

One of the best Lego sets ever
The pneumatic functions to raise and lower the boom is fantastic. Sheer joy.

Great kit, but age 11+ on box is misleading; more like 15+
A 15+ year old would really like this kit, I think. *Tons* of moving parts, all interesting and fun. (I'm a 44 year old mechanical engineer. I think this is a great kit.) My 12 year old son got off to a great start with this kit. About 25% of the way through, he stalled. I can see why. There's a misleading image or 2 or 3, hard to follow. (I'll follow up soon with more details, like specific pages.) Some of the assembly requires considerable compression force, when multiple connectors need to be assembled simultaneously. I used almost all my hand strength on some steps. Some kids might need their dad to press parts together.

The pneumatic functions along with gear meachanism are stunning. It's not for kids but for adults. The minute details to match the real truck functionality is truly amazing.

It's a big project with over 2000 pieces and many of those pieces extremely small. The mechanics and pneumatics are well engineered. The design and how all the pieces fit together to work together is very well done. It's complicate enough to be a good challenge without being overly or overly complicated. The model is really big once built but I don't think there's much play out of it for kids. This is very much about the building rather than playing with the built product.
