Two years in and it works. Purchased a second unit in August 2024
Review update - October 2024I had a glitch with the USB plug on the unit. It wasn't charging. I had no problem getting service help from Tack.My 2022 model was superseded by an updated design. Mine was just out-of-warranty. Tack gave me a big discount on a replacement with their newest model. I then purchased a second unit to tag the grandchildren. At an event or even in a park kids are fast. They too easily disappear causing anxious moments while we look for them.I was reminded of that while visiting an Apple Orchard with two of them. They are looking for fun and don't see the dangers that parents and grandparents see. We had them tagged with Samsung Smart Tag2's. Which are pretty reliable but require proximity to an Android phone. The Tack GPS unit is completely independent and capable of on-demand location identification. So it's better then an AirTag or SmartTag which should anyhow be essential gear on any child under the age of 10.A Tack GPS+ device is one step better. It also has an alert function to message parents if the kids became lost.I'm happy with the size, recharging, and tracking. I imagine the next version might see continuous tracking. That's an issue with battery size and monitoring costs. The Tack unit has a one hour mode which doubles the frequency of tracking pin drops. I hope they can make that continuous for at least 8 hours in a future model.First review from October 2022I was looking for a theft location gadget to help locate my road bike should someone steal it.I physically examined and tested six different GPS location devices. Tack GPS was not in available last year when I did the testing. I liked Invoxia and selected their gum stick size device. I thought it was the most easily hidden and it provided pretty much continuous monitoring. Unfortunately it failed after a couple of months of use. Invoxia text support was horrible and would not help.I then reviewed everything on Amazon and found the Tack GPS unit. The phone app was not as simple as Invoxia but at least the unit works and the Android app is functional. The only glitch for me as continuous monitoring on demand or when the unit is moving. Tack GPS limits such monitoring to an hour and even then it's at big intervals. My bike adventures are 2-3 hours.Affecting the Tack GPS design is that the unit is small which is a great feature. While small doesn't seem to diminish GPS tracking it does mean "small battery". So there's a big tradeoff. Small size while trying to be able to track for a week or two weeks or a month requires energy and a small battery has limits. There's also the cost of monitoring. More frequent updates increases data charges and data is not free. The Tack GPS uses multiple wireless technologies to communicate but the expensive one is accessing the cellular network which provides communication regardless of location or access to things like wi-fi.I gave the Tack GPS 5 stars because it does work. It's reliable. The customer and tech support was great. They even customized my unit to report position data at 5 minute intervals instead of 10 minute.Compared to what's available for the summer of 2023 I don't think there's a better choice.

Not so good...
I was really hoping these would be good, I read some reviews saying they were and some saying they were not. In my experience they are not. I bought two...neither is very accurate but not terrible either. My issue is with how they update; or more exactly how they do not update. Both my kids go to the same school and when they both leave together I am finding one of these will update saying they have left while the other does not....then the one that does update loses signal and shows a new location very, very far away from where the kids are located....the other is still showing one of my kids at home...which is not true...When the unit is moving updates are not good at all....right now my son has his book bag (with the unit inside) with him at school....it was in 10 minute mode and it takes at least 10 minutes to get to school...the unit never updated and still shows him at home...my daughter's unit, which is at the same school, shows her location many, many blocks away from the school....also showing "weak gps signal/location estimated" but it had her correct location as in the parking lot of the school just before it updated to this awful, very far way location...The "emergency" 2 minute mode is not usually 2 minutes and even when changed into 2 minute mode from say 10 minute mode it takes 10 minutes before it moves into 2 minute mode...you would think if you change it to "emergency 2 minute mode" it would tell the little unit to update its location and send updates every 2 minutes but no...it waits until the next 10 minute update to then tell it to update every 2 minutes...They seem inconsistent and unreliable....these are a great idea and my suggestion to the makers would be to improve location updates and accuracy at the expense of battery life. They write about how it lasts 30 days on a charge but what good is that if it doesn't update or updates to the wrong location more often than not? I'd rather plug the damn thing in every night knowing where my kids are at then to plug it in once a month with it working maybe 20% of the time at best...I am returning these and will instead spend the extra money I was trying to save by getting more expensive, more accurate tracking units for my kids...

Effective Small Lightweight Cellular-Based Tracker
Cost effective small lightweight tracker device for my spouse who suffers from Alzheimer’s now that she seems to wander on occasion. Battery life could be better at about 6 days. The location app could also be better in that it is NOT intuitive and is a little confusing during setup and initial use until you get the “hang of it” and how to move about the features for setup, especially the geofence feature. The tracking capability is spot on with its piggybacking on the cellular network without the need of Bluetooth. As for the emergency button, it’s nearly useless since it is small an unassuming on the top edge. It needs to be a nice big button easy for the wearer to push in times of need.

Reliable and accurate tracker
Why did you pick this product vs others?:The Tack does not require Bluetooth to work, while other trackers do. I have found this to be more reliable for that reason alone. Accuracy:Very accurate.Tracking capability:I enjoy the different modes that are present and how easy it is to change between them. While not using it, leaving it in standard mode is the best way to save battery life. Design:Compact and easy to toss in a backpack. I also purchased the Tack Wonder Sleeve Fabric Pouch however I have not used it yet.

Accurate Tracker
Amazing little tracker! We purchased it for a family member that suffers from dementia and is prone to wondering. With this, he has freedom to be on his property and we are notified if he should step out of our designated safe zone. I love that is has a fall detection option as well. We charge the battery 3 times a week during his shower time so always are running on a full charge. It’s incredibly accurate and is exactly what I was looking for. The app is easy to use too!
