Do these get tangled up with each other sitting together?

No tangles. Just dumped them in a drawer - when I pick one up there are no others attached.

They are steel completely covered by rubberized coating

Can these clips go into the freezer? Are they safe? Will they break?

I've used in the freezer once and it seemed fine. I believe they're safe as I've never had any problems indicating they're not safe. I've never had one break; they're very strong. Hope this helps.
