Great study
All of John MacArthur's Bible studies are fantastic, he explains things in a way that everyone can understand plus the questions that go with each section of reading help deepen your understanding.

The First Church Struggling To Survive
The Book of Acts documents the rapid spread of the Christian church after Christ's Asencion. The Holy Spirit comes into full view. The questions make this book excellent for solo study or for small groups.

Good solid Biblical teaching
This study book (and the series) is very well laid out informative and thought provoking. I have used this study of Acts and a few others to lead a Bible study of mature believers. It is a good fit for groups or a self based study. The theology is solid the foot notes are very informative. My only negative is I wish longer books like Acts were broken up into more than 12 study chapters. This book had sections covering almost three chapters of Acts, in one lesson, which is a large chunk.

Great book to deepen your understanding of Acts
I read this Bible Study Book as part of my year-long study on the book of Acts. I've been reading a commentary by a Pentecostal Missiologist, a great book that told the book as a story set in our modern day and now this book by one of the great (decidedly, and contrastingly not pentecostal) Bible teachers of our day, John MacArthur. The diversity of these views has allowed me to see the book from a lot of different angles, which has been really helpful. I enjoyed this little book thoroughly. It divides the book of Acts into sections and after giving an overview of the section, plunges right into the text itself, giving insights as you read along. These insights are really helpful. Each chapter also has some really thought provoking questions at the end. My only regret with my purchase of this book was that I bought the Kindle version, making it a little clunky to answer the study-guide questions. I have no doubt I will return to this book for more intensive study before my "year of Acts" is out.

Acts (MacArthur Bible Study Guides)
Essentially What you are getting with this Bible study are a distilled version of the Macarthurs study notes from any one version of the MacArther Study Bible.Whilst this might seem redundant, It's actually very helpful. The format is as follows:Introduction, This is a synopsis of the book.Author and Date, This covers what historical record and tradition says about the date of the autograph [original copy]Background and Setting, This covers the books' intended audience and idiosyncrasies particular to the author.Historical and Theological Themes, what it says.Interpretive Challenges, couple of pages helping you to cross the culture gap and history gap. A couple of pages long and very helpful. The Studies themselves follow the following format:Opening thoughtBackground of the passageBible Passage [with commentary/ glossary]Understanding the TextCross ReferenceExploring the MeaningSumming UpReflecting on the TextRecording Your Thoughtsand finally Additional Scriptures to follow up on what you read.I highly recommend using the 'Look Inside' option to see how excellent this study is.The book is aimed at the layman without having a condescending tone.It is well written and points out many things obscured by the passage of time, different culture, historicity among other things. The chapters in the book are broken up by the time it takes to cover material rather than an equal number of pages. The beaks in the text per lesson make sense and help with studying the text. Its very hard to imagine how this study could be improved.

Not quite what I was looking for
It wasn't quite what I was expecting. Partly my own fault for not reading the description more carefully. Perhaps it would be beneficial to include that the commentary portion is also available in a different resource. The printing is also really terrible - blurry and poor quality.

Paging is frustrating
The only reason for this low rating is that it is not really compatable with Kindle. There is too much jumping back pages and then forward again. I now plan to get them in paper form.
