motorola Xoom Travel Charger

No difference from the original. A warning on just adapting another 12v charger, I opened up the old charger to see if anything obvious was wrong and these are some complex adapters. Multiple capacitors, voltage regulator, diodes, an inductor it looks like, and a bridge rectifier just from a quick peek. And on the back are several IC chips. I have several chargers laying around, who doesn't, and I was going to snip the ends and just hack it. Might not be such a good idea. I know some adapters are pretty simple. A transformer and maybe as few as 2 diodes and not much else.Shipped fast works fine. I wonder if the old one failed at the weak thin connector at the Xoom side. It had gotten loose but I never did check. Wiggle at the outlet would make it work for a bit, so unknown. Looks authentic.

One the one hand I've had to replace this item twice now. on the other hand, it's not a faulty product so much as it as a victim of bad design. For some reason Motorola chose to use a barrel pin adapter for their charger and a very thin one at that. The problem is that the pin bends and snaps off all the time. The item for sale is a factory part that is no better than it can possibly be due Motorola's decision to go with such a bad design. Which is the problem with rating it... giving a good rating feels wrong as it is a poor design. Giving it a bad rating is pointless because there is no other option available to anyone who owns a Xoom.

Value for money. Almost exactly the same as the original charger. You should be careful with the connector tip as the alloy is more weak than the original so it can bend or break easily.

As in the original, the charger tip is very thin and probably easy to snap. Knowing this, I will be careful whenever I plug it in and when I store it when it's not in use. It has the retractable prongs for the electrical outlet but once I extended them, I could not easily close them and I'm not going to try to force it closed in fear of breaking something. I'm sure if used with care, it will be fine.

This is exactly what it says it is. Unfortunately for those of that bought a Xoom when they first came out, the charger tip is this tiny, narrow, bit that is easily bent or broken and needs to be replaced occasionally. It also appears to be a proprietary size that I have not been able to find on any universal chargers that have interchangeable tips (which is why I refuse to by anything that does not use a micro-USB tip anymore). This unit is is the original and works just fine. Wish I didn't have to keep buying these things, though.
