Hi! Yes, these pencils (GOLD) are oil-based. The other set is wax-based. If you are looking for harder pigments perfect for burnishing, then this set is for you. :-)

Q: Can you blend these with turpentine ?

Hello Lennydylan, Thanks for asking us this interesting question. Using turpentine will easily break down the binders used in coloured pencils giving you an easy advantage of mixing the colours. Since this is the case, we don't see any reason why you can't use it along with our Gold oil-based pencils. Art is always fun whenever we mix and match other mediums! Q: Do these have a lightfastness rating?

Hi Josef! I appreciate your interest in our colored pencils. In the absence of a universally recognized system for lightfast testing, we carry out a range of in-house tests to see how our colored pencils perform. It is widely accepted that specific colors are more liable to fade over time. These include pinks, yellows, and light blues. For these more susceptible colors, we recommend a denser application of pigment through extra layering and burnishing. Avoiding exposure to direct sunlight is also recommended.
