Q: Can this be used for direct burial? Any chance of lightening strikes zapping it?

This is not designed to be buried underground as the plastic may degrade over time. However, I think if you use a narrow plastic pipe and run the cable through it, it should be OK. As with lightening stike zapping it- it can happen- but highly unlikely as lightening usually stike highest point of contact first.
