Mostly awesome
Firstly, this machine makes a fabulous cup of coffee, latte, cappuccino or plain black or white. My trusty De’Longhi (over 10 years old) went bang so it was time for a new machine. Hard to choose a different maker but I’m glad I did. It’s beautifully made - solid and good looking. The setup is pretty simple and is just about fully explained in the first time setup in the manual. The setting to make it as hot as possible works well as I like my coffee really hot. It also takes the standard water filters (which improves the flavour) and they are cheap enough as long as you don’t but the ‘branded’ versions - so then you don’t have to faff around with the frequent descaling if you don’t use the filters (it also makes setting the water hardness a redundant feature). Some people are moaning about the endless cleaning cycles- don’t listen to them- it’s no more intense than my de’longhi was after each drink, just different- and I don’t mind at all. You can adjust the quantity and strength easily ‘on the fly’ which is nice as you don’t always have the same mugs/cups etc. the only drawback is that the ‘Costa’ sized latte glasses don’t fit under, nor the slightly smaller versions - but that’s no different to my old machine - so we’re now using mugs - but that’s ok as they actually take the same volume of liquid. I was cautious about not having a milk carafe, but actually it’s so much more sensible just having a tube and wand (purchased separately but absolutely necessary). You just drop the wand into your milk bottle- simples! No mess, no space taken up in your fridge. The clean cycle after making a milk based coffee does require dropping the wand into a receptacle with water - so I just have an old milk bottle filled with water stashed behind the machine for that. Again, you had to run a clean cycle on my old machine- so no difference there. It is quite quiet- maybe not whisper quiet as stated. It also makes 2 coffees/lattes at once - that’s really neat. All in all - very impressed so far.

Simply the best
Simple to operate. Makes all the coffees I need. Two at the time, great taste. I tried other with milk container, but this with the pipe is better in my opinion. Recommended.

Brilliant machine, can’t fault it in any way
I have had this machine for circa six months now, when I’m working from home I probably make myself 4-6 coffees a day. This machine is brilliant. Essentially put the coffee beans in the back, water in tank to the side, if want a milk based drink then hose into milk bottle, cup underneath, puts the button and it makes you a coffee, There are various functions to fine tune what you want. First of all there are five principal pre set drink buttons along the top, expresso, cappuccino, latte, steamed milk, hot water. The dial at the end you can adjust the amount of drink dispenser to suit the cup size. You can adjust the coffee strength between three strength settings. In the setup settings you can also adjust the drink temperature. You can make two drinks at the same time by double tapping the preset drinks button to show 2x on the screen and put one cup under each nozzle. Yo will need to play around with the machine to start with to work out the best settings to suit you cup/ glass sizes and drink preferences. For example I usually drink latte, but also have quite large latte 400ml glasses. I have found by setting the strength to 1, setting the dial to the largest drink size, and double tapping on cappuccino, if perfectly fills the glass and makes the right strength milk based expresso drink for my taste. I have noticed a few slightly ridiculous complaints on some comments here. The machine has a removable and fillable water tank, so yes will run out when empty, usually I find it can do me two 400ml drinks before runs out (obviously that is including milk). If you want a machine you don’t have to fill up then spend a lot more and buy one that you plumb in! The machine cleans itself when you start it up, after making each drink, and when you turn it off. It also recommends, although you are not forced to, rinse through the milk system after making each drink. Yes this fills the drip tray, and yes this uses water. However it is called hygiene, and also machine maintenance, I would prefer it cleaning itself than making me I’ll or clogging and breaking breaking down. If this is an issue, again pay a lot more and get one the water supply and drip tray are plumbed in!! For the price this is a brilliant machine and I would definitely recommend.

Fantastic coffee!
This is a nice bean to cup coffee machine that is a lot quieter than many others. You can have a normal conversation while it's grinding etc without having to raise your voice. Of course it's not going to be perfectly silent, but it's a lot quieter than other bean to cup coffee machines. This is one of the reasons why I purchased it. Making milk based coffee is very easy, but I highly suggest that you get the milk lance (sold separately). You should also order some cleaning tablets and milk cleaner solution (you don't need to use them right away - you can make many coffees before you should start using them). Very simple to maintain - and I'm sure if you follow the correct maintenance schedules then this machine will last for thousands of coffees! The coffee tastes absolutely fantastic from this as well. I have used many bean to cup coffee machines and this one is simple to use and makes lovely coffee. Of course a lot of it depends on the beans you buy, BUT you can get away with using supermarket beans and still get a lovely coffee. It's also a nice compact size and shouldn't take up too much space on your counter top. There are some complaints about how much water it uses, but this is normal in a bean to cup machine. It pre-heats/rinses when you turn it on, and it rinses after you've made a coffee. I would be worried if it didn't do these things! A few minor complaints: 1 - The drip tray gets full very quickly and it doesn't have a proper sensor (i.e. the machine can't tell you when it's actually full and needs emptying, it estimates it based on how much water has been used to rinse the machine etc). Not a problem though as I just go by when the red dot is being pushed up and empty it then. 2 - The water tank can sometimes be a bit tricky to get to as it's at the back of the machine. I would've preferred it to be at the front so you could easily pull it out and refill. It's still easy to fill though (I just use a jug and pour water in) BUT bear in mind that if you plan to put this under a cabinet then you may not have room to either get a jug there or take the water tank out to fill it. 3 - For the price of the machine I think that Melitta could have been a bit more generous and included the milk lance and some cleaning tablets / solution as a starter pack. Overall though it's a brilliant machine. Very simple to use and makes fantastic coffee (whether that is espresso, a regular coffee, latte or cappuccino). Highly recommended.

Great coffee machine
Great coffee machine. Fantastic at making a latte, black coffee or espresso. I've owned a Gaggia machine which has a more than double RRP of this, and that had a much poorer carafe milk design, which produced less nice milk for coffee and the milk would go off within 3 or so days sat in the carafe. The design of this machine is excellent. The milk system accessible easily behind the chrome nozzle section is easily cleaned, but unlike the Gaggia it never seems to look dirty, the Gaggia would get full of old steamed and dried milk, this one after a quick cleaning cycle every time you use it, stays very clean. All other cleaning cycles take their time, and require the manual to figure things out, but are then easily done. The only place I've noticed milk residue to build up is on the tip of the steam wand attachment (sold separately) but this disappears with some household cleaner or descaler. This machine really does make a nice coffee. There's an error in the manual which says you need to hold down a certain button to run the quick milk wand cleaning routine, but that's the wrong button, you need to hold down the milk glass button until the lights flash, then it runs a quick milk tube cleaning. That error in the manual frustrated me for a long time!

Great coffee maker. No regrets. But a few pointers for new users
This coffee maker is great. I could talk about all the good things which are clearly laid out in the description so I’ll concentrate on the not so good things. - Despite the fact that photos show the milk carton with what Melitta call the “milk lance”, for some very strange reason this doesn’t actually come with the coffee machine. This means your only option out of the box is to put the hose into a cup of milk and you will soon realise what a mess this makes. Do yourselves a favour and buy the milk lance. It’s only £10 but makes everything much easier. Would be better for Melitta to provide this in the box though. - it’s hard to find any mention of this anywhere but as standard the machine will rinse the brewing system both before and after every use. This explains the water that goes into the drip tray seemingly with no explanation. I thought my unit was leaking somehow, but it is just rinsing the system. Also, if you are confused as to why the machine is randomly flowing water when it is turned on/off, this is all it is doing. It can be switched off in advanced settings but it is not recommended. - It will occasionally tell you to empty the drip tray, the way it determines this is how much water it has used to rinse and therefore ended up in the drip tray. So if you catch the rinse water that comes out of the outlet at the front (which I do) then occasionally it will think it has filled the drip tray when it actually hasn’t as there is no water level sensor in the drip tray. All in all this makes and excellent coffee and once you understand what the machine is doing and how it does it, along with buying the milk lance seperately, it is a 10/10 machine in my opinion. Well worth the price.

Great coffee but flawed machine
This machine makes great coffee. Unfortunately, I returned it because of three issues which affected the usability. Firstly, the water tank is quite small - especially when you add a water filter which further reduces the volume of water it can hold. This meant frequent trips to the sink to fill it up. Secondly, the drip tray fills up incredibly quickly. I think this is because of how much water is used when the machine purges and cleans itself. Despite keeping a mug under the spout to catch the drips from the spout, I was still having to empty the drip tray every other day. Thirdly, the machine asks you to purge the milk spout after every milky drink. This involves filling an external cup/jug with water and using the milk straw to force it through the drink spout. This is very inconvenient. For context, my wife and I probably averaged 4 latte machiattos a day between us, plus I'd also have an espresso or two. The machine makes really great coffee, but I found that this was at the expense of too much faffing about and too much maintenance. This might help the longevity of the machine, but it also affects the enjoyment of using it.
