Mounting cups withstand a lot of force and keep walls gouge-free
I bought these vmaisi mounting cups to use with a Munchkin XL baby gate at the top of a staircase to increase the sturdiness and have been very satisfied. These mounting cups were very straightforward to use / easy to install. You just stick the mounting cups that came with your baby gate into these cups and turn the adjustment rod on your gate until it is firmly pressure-mounted to the wall. Note that these add a little bit of overall width to your gate, so you'll need to factor in an additional .98" (basically an inch) to your width calculations if you need to figure out gate extensions. I used the bottom cups on a baseboard and the top mounted directly to walls, so I had the top adjustment rods turned out a lot more than the bottom ones. I didn't need to drill holes to attach these to the wall. They are very sturdy without doing that. The larger diameter of these (2 1/3 inches) than the typical mounting cups that come with your gate, along with the riveted lines on the side that faces the surface you're mounting it to is what allows for a sturdier grip to keep your gate in place. It also allows your surfaces to be protected a bit more because the larger rubber grips diffuse crazy kid or animal energy thrown their way. My strong 2 year old loves to try to grab, pull, and shake the gate like it will magically open for him if he tries hard enough (the gate hasn't moved a bit, and you'd think he's learn that he shouldn't bother, but he sometimes still goes at it like his life depends on it.)Update: My child has grown and we no longer need the gates. There were NO marks on the walls when taking the gates off using these at the top of the stairs. We didn't have the mounting cups on the gate at the bottom of the stairs and there were gouges out of the drywall and baseboard moulding. I wish we would have used these on the bottom gate too.I highly recommend this product! I'm glad we had a little extra ease of mind at the top of the stairs and they did a good job of protecting drywall and moulding.

Wall Protector
I bought a baby gate for my sister as she has a puppy. The gate had okay wall covers but I wanted a bit extra to help her out. The puppy jumps and I did not want her walls getting destroyed at all. These covers have worked out very well and she ahs been very happy with them.

Almost any tension-based pet / child gate will benefit
Ordered based upon recommendation with a tension-based safety gate. Glad I did. No only doe it allow you to have more flexibility in where you install, it will protect the wall, banister, etc. Beyond that, tension-based safety gates will eventually move a bit over time with force. If that is a concern you can mount the cups to the wall. The tension gate spindles will slip right into the cup and and you can be sure the cups will not move when mounted with a single screw though the center. I opted to do this for the top two spindles and leave the bottom two as tension only with the cups providing extra tension. The gate is noticeably more stable then with out these and significantly more stable with the top two cups mounted. Highly recommend.

Great protector for the wood on my stairway
Used to protect the wood on my stairway that was getting scratched from the baby gate's movement every time the gate opened and closed. These protectors may the gate more sturdy and the frame more stationary. They were the perfect size; just what I needed.

Plastic harder than I imagined it would be-Slippery
They are pretty straightforward, easy to use, but the plastic is much harder than I imagined it would be. They are slippery as a result and do not stay in place like I thought they should. Seems like a more rubbery plastic would be more effective to create a "non-slip" effect. We decided not to use them as the baby could easily push the gate over even with the tension set on the gate. The existing gate tensions are going to leave marks on the wall, but at least baby will be safe. Waste of money.
