We've been giving our cockatiels this Kaytee grit for years, and they love it. We serve it separately from their regular food, in small caps (from our empty vitamin bottles). Grit is not only good for satisfying their nibbling instincts--it helps condition their beaks. Kaytee grit provides calcium, necessary for their bones and feathers. The charcoal in the grit helps to absorb toxins and sweetens their stomachs. They do not eat it all the time, only when they feel like it. I wish Hartz would go back to offering the grit in the box that you used to get at Walmart. It was finer than Kaytee's and looked like sand. But it looks like Hartz has flown the coop on the birds.
