Best clippers on the market.
Wahl has always been at the top of my list for clipper brands and this Wahl clipper senior has not let me down. The quality of the clippers is fantastic. They cut very well, leaving no hair untouched. The clippers are relatively quiet and do not get hot while using. The power cord is long enough to reach far away outlets and the cord does not tangle. Included are 3 basic guards, which will cover your basic haircutting needs. Super product for the price!

Fabulous Hair Clipper
This Wahl Professional Senior Clipper is the real deal! It's every bit as good and maybe even better, than the one your barber uses. You might have to buy a few additional combs, but then you are good to go with cutting your own hair. You can even do it by yourself if you don't mind a simple buzz cut. I bought mine during the very start of Covid-19 so I could avoid going to the barber. That was 4 years ago and I haven't been to a barber since. I spent $100 and have probably since then saved at least $1,400 on hair cuts. Don't forget to buy and regularly use the Wahl oil as needed. I fully expect, with proper care, to pass this clipper on to an heir. I just hope it's really much older by then.

just like the pros use
I got tired of buying a new hair trimmer every year because of lack of power, won't hold a charge or just plain fell apart. I am a frolicky impaired person who likes to keep my hair trimmed, what little I still have. I have had this trimmer for over a year now and the only thing I have had to do was add a little oil to the blades to keep them running smoothly. Side note: make sure you double check the tightness on the screws after you have cleaned and oiled the blades, unless you enjoy removing the "p" trap on your sink to retrieve a screw that fell off, my bad. My son has a thick head of hair that needs trimming every few weeks (don't know where that came from, thanks MOM) and this trimmer doesn't even slow down plowing through his hair, the other shavers would just bog down or not even cut it. It is heavier than most trimmers, maybe that is why it work so well. If you want to save some money on haircuts and aren't a style monkey, get this trimmer. All the old Barber Shops that I used to go, when I had hair, all used Wahls, there has to be a reason for that, built to last.

Reliable, Robust, Durable. Bought this as a Spare. Does not come with a case.
I have been using a Wahl Senior for a decade or so, but wondered what would happen if it should fail or die or fall in some water or something. I'd be in trouble, especially if I was... ...halfway done. I called Wahl and was told that the Wahl Senior = the Wahl 8500, so I bought one of the 8500s as a backup to the Senior. I was hoping that the recent one would come with a case, but looks like the only case options would be Third Party, so I'll have to hunt around Amazon for a case when there is time. (Update: Found a nice case on Amazon!) Other Trivia. Seems there is now a "Cordless Senior" as well, but I just forked out for this corded one, so with two corded models in my possession, no need for a third unit at this time. Minor Edit: I was re-reading some of the Wahl Site Comments and allegedly an "official cordless Senior" might be coming out in "a few months". Whatever is out "now" (mid 2018-ish) is a Limited Edition (?). Extra Trivia: I think I read that (allegedly) US versions May Not (?) ship with "Premium" (??) Guides. No clue what a "Premium" one might be. I know this one shipped with three Plastic-y ones, but I ignored them and used the ones I already have. The guides that came with this Senior are: 1/16" 1.5mm; 1/8" 3mm; 3/16" 4.5mm. If you want something better or different, Amazon has lots of options to choose from. This Wahl also came with a little brush for cleaning, some blade oil, a plastic "blade guard", and a users manual. Here are some Other Guide Sizes (from a set I bought on Amazon a few years ago): 000 01/32" 0.8mm; 00 01/16" 1.6mm; 0 03/16" 4.8mm; 0A 05/16" 7.9mm; 1 07/16" 11.1mm; 1A 09/16" 14.3mm; 2 11/16" 17.5mm; 3 1" 25.4mm. That set did not include a 1/8" 3mm one, but I guess that means there are other variations are out there for the picking. I suppose when combined with the little Taper Lever one can get even more variety of cuts, but for myself, after a few years I have three (or four) favorite guides and the others just hang out in storage. Other Stuff: I guess I should plug this into my Kill-o-Watt to find out how MUCH "power" it actually uses in terms of wattage (someday), but there is a "power screw" on the side that allegedly allows one to adjust the amount of "power" the Senior makes use of. No idea as I have never touched it. I see that my original model has a flat-head whilst the new one is a Phillips-screw. Blade Stuff. The Senior uses a Three-hole two-piece blade (usually known as part #1005) and it seems you *only* need to take out the middle screw when replacing it. The blade kit ships with other screws and such, but if you remove those, then you get to Have Fun re-aligning everything. There is also a #1026 blade which allegedly "cuts closer", but seems to cut Too Close For Comfort (may snag hair, etc) according to other reviews. The manual also says one is supposed to "oil the blades after each use (with clipper running)." A Wahl by any other name: Looks like the Senior can also go by 8500, 850 (my original one says this) and (?) 785005.

Awesome clipper. Solidly built, cuts clean and quickly.
This is the third hair clipper we've tried. We live on a boat and do our own haircuts on the guys and tried a couple of other clippers. Haircuts where long and painful with cheap consumer grade clippers that pulled and wouldn't cut after the first haircut. Multiple passes each time barely cutting the hair and pulling the rest, 30-40 minutes for a simple men's cut. My son in particular dreaded them they were so long and unpleasant. Finally I asked a friend who runs his own salon for advice. He told me "Buy a Wahl, and spend a least $50 since the cheaper ones tend to be junk for household use." He was absolutely right. The first haircut my wife gave me with this took about two minutes and never caught or pulled. Same with my son's. The clipper has a nice heft too it, it feels SOLID and hums authoritatively without buzzing or clacking. It is almost all metal and feels like a quality, well built piece of machinery. You know, just like the ones you are used to when you sit in the barber's chair. From the way this thing is built and works, with only two of us getting cuts I suspect it will be the last clipper we ever buy.

Extremely happy with this clipper. Works great, cuts very smooth and easy to hold. Use it for my own head and don't have any complaints. Takes one or two times to get used to it to get an even cut, but after some practice it works great. I used to have the Oster76 Outlaw, which was really loud and would get uncomfortably hot within 5 minutes of use; the Wahl however barely gets warm after about 20 minutes of use and is a lot quieter. Also, buying guards for the Wahl has a lot more reasonably priced options as opposed to the Oster and it has an adjustable blade to fine tune the cut length.

Have gone through 2 Costco Wahl trimmers. After a year or so of bi-weekly cuts they just stop cutting well and require multiple passes. This professional version seems much tougher. Kind of sucks that the $60-70 versions come with 8-12 plastic guides for cutting different lengths but this commercial version comes with only 3 short ones. Positive is that the blade size of this commercial version is the same as the home versions so you can use the same home cutting guides (or buy them cheap from the used/broken marketplace).
