space battles and the genre these books are good. They are not great
As far as space sagas, space battles and the genre these books are good. They are not great, in no small part because there truly is very little military structure or reality in it (in my opinion as a former military member myself) and there is a lot of over simplistic things that are just simple due to convenience (I think). I still have purchased and read ALL of these books, and they are very entertaining and enjoyable.I'll give examples so you can judge - a general, a captain, a colonel, and a commander would not end up in the same military structure... yes the army/marine has these first three ranks, General -> Colonel -> Captain... but a commander is nowhere involved... more specifically, a "Commander" would be an O-5 and a captain SHOULD be an O-6... but not if he reports to a General; which would imply he is an O-3 and not the Navy/USCG equivalent of an O-6.Unrealistic, a Captain never leaves his ship... that old saying that a "Captain goes down with his ship" is true... so the fact that he leaves his ship all the time in a star trek manner annoys me. The crew size was definitely hard to swallow... anyone who has served in any kind of military vehicle... from a small boat, a large ship, a carrier, a helicopter, a plane and down to a tank, Humvee or a jeep knows that maintenance can be "automated" as much as you want, but there is no replacing a good eye and some duct tape. -- Right!!? So a space ship with 20 people that fights, takes damage, has engines and all the other plethora of systems is hard to swallow.I HATE when some Author explains how their engines work in detail... who cares? This guy does that right... but then he also oversimplifies other aspects which could have brought more depth and attachments to the characters. That being said, even though I do not usually tear into books, mainly because I haven't written one and therefore have no idea what it takes, I have read a bunch and these little inconsistencies and intricacies annoy me.My review for this series will be copied and pasted.

Continues to be Intriguing
While the storyline is not always truthfully constructed, it remains an enjoyable read. Story telling is as more about entertaining your audience than it is about relaying true situations. Mr. James does a good job providing interest, action and suspense and keeping the reader entertained. This installment brings some story thread closures and several new directions. Tensions grow, the known characters are better developed and new possibilities are created. Ends with a closure and new opening.

Easy to read and a good story with interestng concepts, bully for a captain
Easy to read and a good story with interesting concepts. I however fail to understand why Mr James makes his main character to be a bully and gets irritable whenever his staff can not do the impossible, always cutting them short when he makes comments like 'I need it now, or that's not what I want to hear. As this appeared more and more as the series progressed, it put me off and has made me decide not to go on finding out what Captain Duggan is up to next

Great book
This was a great book. Sometimes I find it hard to find books that I enjoy to read. I don't like to just settle for a book. I've done that a few times and regretted it. Sometimes I wouldn't even finish it. I have truly enjoyed your books. Please don't change the way you write. Thank you.

Book 5
Book 5 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The plot has developed well, if not predictable. The characters are still interesting enough. The enemy is still a big unknown and this book in the series fills in some questions but not all.

Great series :)
Excellent installment in the Survival Wars that sees Captain Duggan and the crew of the Crimson set out on a dangerous mission through the Blackstar wormhole to the Dreamer's region of space. Plenty of action both in space and on the ground make for some tense moments for Crimson's crew and their Captain. Some of the questions about the Dreamer and Ghast relationship are answered but they soon give way to even more questions. Totally enjoy this series and I'm so looking forward to the next book - wish it was out now 'cause I need to know like yesterday what's to become of Duggan and my other favourite characters :)

Fantastic series of books
Great books, that I find hard to put down. Usually reading them over a couple of days in the evening times.Realising a few times that's it was after midnight and I was still reading. That's how I know they are good books, that I enjoy reading.Definitely worth a read.

Fun
Another fun military science fiction novel in the Survival Wars series. As usual, we have cracking writing and some great characters. Well worth the entrance fee.
