Great learning Piano Book!
The piano lessons I signed up for required this book. I understand why! It's easy to follow and teaches the basics using both hands and fingers individually

Great Beginning Book
Love this for ages 3 to 8 to learn beginning piano. Love the ease that all students have learning and absorbing, and the fun, creative pieces this Bastien method has inside. Highly recommend for a well rounded start at the piano.

Sticks to Bastien basics with a few updates
I love the Bastien series(es) and really like the older (1970's) one for my mid-elementary school beginners. This one is geared toward younger students, which is great, and follows some of the newer pedagogical ideas found in more "modern" series such as Piano Adventures and Alfred Premier. It does begin with black key songs, and then off-staff notes. This level never gets to the staff - that begins in Primer B. Note names are taught working up and down from Middle C (which I prefer), and Middle C position is used for some songs, but some are one thumb on Middle C, the other on B or D (which is more like the methods I mentioned above). By the end of the book, students are playing in C position. The illustrations are much better than the previous (1980's) Bastien books, and my Kindergartners and 1st graders seem to be enjoying it!

A Fine Beginner's Book for Today's Kids
This beginning piano book is colorful and attractive-and contains not only music, but technic and theory. Lessons can be assigned in small, manageable chunks so boredom won't set in. An excellent all-in-one method.

Great for beginners.
This book begins a little slow, but once you get rolling, the songs and lessons are great

Much improved
I switched to the New Traditions series for a few reasons. I love that it is an All In One book instead of four different books. I feel that the Primer books take it slower than their older books. Overall, it is much better than their older books. Try it and you won't regret it!
