Yes, it has a LED Light. It is located inside the key chain handle.

I bought this 64Gb drive for my daily backup and don' want the encryption software. But it wouldn't complete the file transfers. Should i try reformat

As always whenever you reformat either a jump drive or a main drive in a computer you must be sure that's what you want to do. This will erase ALL data and software within the drive.

Is this a good USB drive to transfer & store photos?

128 GB is a HUGE amount of storage for a flash drive. Take a look at the amount of storage you are using for your picture collection. If it adds up to less than 128GB, you win! Also, as fast as USB3.1 may be, it's still going to take a while to download 128 GB of graphics, so plan ahead. Also understand that flash drives tend to lose reliability in the presence of static electricity, so make sure this will NOT be your ONLY backup.
