A well made cheap toy. But a poorly made tool.
Humankind has made elegant and accurate mortise gauges for many hundreds of years. There are a few ways to do make them. This is not one of them.It has two redeeming features:1/ brass2/ solid hardwoodBut a marking tool needs more than brass and hardwood: above all it needs one thing: accuracy. This one, due to its sloppy manufacture, is not.Second and equally important in a tool - for anyone who has a shred of self respect - is elegance. This one is not. Elegance resides firstly in being well-proportioned and second in careful workmanship and secondly workmanship. This one is lacking in both.It would be better thought of as a life-size imitation. A kind of useless toy. A homage to a civilisation that once was. And a foreboding of the ruin that civilisation is becoming.
