Dennenberg shares with us stories that bring these figures from the annals of history both in the distant past and from recent events to life in a way that makes them more real and relatable. This is a skill when relating stories that few writers often achieve. I think for younger readers this is particularly important in order to keep them engaged throughout the book.This is a great read that can be shared by individuals and family members of all ages. You won't regret picking it up this book for your personal library.

I recently purchased the revised edition of this book for my elementary school age granddaughters. I love the current selection of heroes and am especially impressed by the format. It gives some biographical information, but also invites readers to explore via other books and online. This book is ideal for 4th grade Lily to read, and it encourages further independent exploration. In addition, she can read it to her younger sister who is beginning to appreciate stories about "real" people. JBM 8/30/16

Very easy read that covers US history from its main actors.

Highlights Americans who have made an impact kids should know about. Will probably benefit adults with little or no knowledge of American history.

This served as a fantastic "user-friendly" resource for my 4th graders. While a list of heroes will always be quite subjective, I found this sampling to be extremely inclusive and well-rounded. It also certainly didn't hurt that it arrived in excellent condition - and earlier than expected! Woo-hoo!!

Purchased for my nephew, a pre-teen on the spectrum who is obsessed with history but reading at a lower level. This book uses language that is easy for him to read and understand.

Got this for additional gift for my son at Christmas because I would love to pass on my love of history to him. So pleasantly surprised when he comes in the room to tell me interesting facts of Einstein, Jesse Owens, Washington, or Benjamin Franklin. Great book.

This book helped my daughter enjoy learning about people in History so I am thankful!
