I needed to add Lava rocks to fill in my gas log set. I picked this one only because the rocks looked like the ones I already had, and the price was reasonable as compared with other online sights. I measured my rocks to get a good match. It did take 12 days to arrive (including the weekends). Very pleased with the quality. They look exactly like the photo, are not dusty, a nice amount of 10 lbs filling an 11 x 8 x 6 inch postal box.

I put this in my fireplace under my grate along with the orange acrylic beads from Amazon. Looks like ashes and embers. Everyone says my electric (no heat) fireplace log looks real now! I heat these rocks in a pan while pre-warming our oven for baking sourdough. Once the oven comes to temp and the dough is ready to go in, I pour water onto the rocks, launch the dough on a baking stone and immediately close the oven. The stream created during this process helps the dough spring while slightly delaying a crust from hardening, alerting the bread to rise a bit more during the “oven spring” phase. These rocks work great for my baking use case.

If the rock gets wet and you start a fire, it will explode and send pieces of lava flying. This can go on for an hour, so only buy these if you're going to keep your pit covered. They warn in the product description. Don't ignore: WARNING: Lava rock may pop or crack while adjusting to changes in temperature. Please cover your fireplace or fire pit during the first couple of uses. If lava rock is wet, allow fire pit to burn for 45 minutes prior to coming within 15 feet of the fire pit. When not in use the fire pit must be covered at all times.

I use these as outer substrate and ballast for my large Cattleya orchids. They are larger than the standard 3/4 inch gravel and the orchids seem to like them.
