Prompt delivery /small & compact from a good name supplier & so far robust.
Used when my existing computer disc drive would not work. This exterior drive is excellent /good value & works very well with Cyber Power software ( so much better then the previous software I have been using). In fact new software allows me to stop a disc, expel disc & then resume at a later date.

Works with my Android phone but not my chromebook
Did not work on my HP Chromebase (chrome OS), but did luckily on my Pixel 4a Android phone. You need to install the UD Link app from the playstore, and then it will play music CDs from your phone and has a ripping section in the app so can copy (convert to mp3 / flak) to a folder on your phone. I could then simply connect my phone to the chromebase and copy the ripped files across. Do find it a bit amazing that you can play CDs from your phone! Will try a DVD next and watch it on my phone (just because I can now:)).

A great buy
When I bought my laptop I was gutted when I realised it didn’t have a dvd portal! Having read others reviews decided to buy this and hoped it would be easy to set up. It was so easy and works brilliant and was a great price so I am glad I made the right decision.

Useless piece of junk
Bought this for my 24" imac ( last years model ). These don't have built in dvd players so I wanted one to watch some of the boxed sets I have. Works well and no software needed to run it either which is an added bonus.Update !! Tried to copy a cd just now and not a single pc or laptop in the house will look at it.

Good, drive let down by poor software UD Link on Android phone.
Easy to use , I've looked everywhere for an external DVD drive to run on my Samsung phone and Android Car head unit. This seemed to fit the bill. UD drive software found the drive but...can only play and rip to 94% of the disk. Cant access files using files option. Sadly nice drive , let down by poor software. Dont buy for Android until buggy software is improved.

Black/Grey model runs on UD link and VLC video apps
This is a very useful device. I bought the "new version" which is the black/grey version that sports 4 white stripes on the top cover. On windows 10 laptop: to play CD or DVD, just plug the device into any USB port. I have the "VLC media player" (downloaded from Microsoft Store) already installed on my laptop; VLC media player can play both CDs and DVDs with this Hitachi external drive. I didn't need to install on my laptop any of the software from the supplied Software Disk. For my Samsung Tab A, things were a bit tricky: I had to first install the "UD link app" from Google Store. I then used a OTG cable to link the Hitachi player to the Samsung tablet A. The UD link will play CDs and nothing else is needed. But to play DVDs, you need to install "VLC For Android" from Google Store. I did not need to install TrueDVD+ or Disk Link Platinum on my Samsung tab A. I've not yet experimented using this Hitachi with my Android phone.

Leggero, silenzioso e funzionante anche su Android
Sono rimasto veramente molto sorpreso da questo lettore, sia perché è estremamente leggero e silenzioso sia perché funziona alla perfezione anche su Android.L'app è leggermente confusionaria, soprattutto perché non rispecchia il layout della Material UI, ma funziona molto bene

Gutes Laufwerk
Soweit alles okay. An Laptop angeschlossen und los ging es. Es ist auch sehr leise. Nur mit dem Anschließen an den TV gibt es noch Probleme. Wird nicht erkannt. Entweder bin ich zu blöd oder es ist eine Fehlinformation. Trotzdem behalte ich das Laufwek.

It works! With a choice of systems to suit jus about any country
It works and plays cd/DVDs which is all that I want + of course acting as a store for various files. Most of these plug-in DVD R/W players have awkward little buttons to open the machine. Price is reasonable.
