Defective threads
The threads on both ends of the valve were improperly machined. As a machinist, it's clear to me that thread dies were not advanced far enough over the blank ends so as to produce threads that would properly fit into a regular 1/2 inch NPT fitting.

Only MxM 1/2 valve I could find.

Not standard threads
This is stated as being NPT. I tried this with several FIP connections and non of them would thread. I bought two and they both would not thread. I ended up going to HD and got their NPT gas ball valve and it threaded on everything I had from the pressure gauge, couplers, and PROFLEX fittings. I can't see the difference between the threads, but there is a difference.

Not national pipe thread as stated in the description. They are British pipe thread. Not the same and not compatible.
