Certified Lexmark MS312DN MS312 35S0060 Laser Printer with toner drum and 90-day Warranty (Renewed)

Printer came in a nice unmarked box and arrived with no damages to box itself. Printer showed up 3 days later than expected arrival date. After unboxing notices it had a bunch of ink smeared on front of cover no big deal wiped it off with rag. Plugged printer in and all it gives is error code cannot read ink cartridge. At this point I am scared to spend anymore money buying a new cartridge in fear it won’t fix the printer I just bought.. I will be trying a new cartridge first just because I need printer now if it doesn’t work I will be returning for a refund.

We have many of this style LEXMARK and I was happy to find a refurbished unit to put in a place we did not have a lot of budget but really needed something that could pound out a few hundred pages periodically.I as shocked to see the counter was so low. I am sure that this was just the luck of the draw but it really was what we needed and a great value. Uses the same toner and drum as 4 others in the office so we do not have to stock up hundreds of dollars in supplies for each unit.BAD PART: LEXMARK won some legal battle that allowed them to add a firmware mod that bricks some toner cartridges. Also BAD is that the counter that determines how much you will get from a toner cartridge is integrated in a way that just stops printing and there is no reset. Now for us this is not too bad because out jobs are mostly full pages. As far as I know, the counter just keeps track of drum rolls and there is no way to physically measure remaining toner. IF THIS IS CORRECT, IT MEANS THAT if you had a lot of pages with nothing more than maybe a page number you wanted to print, it would stop working and require you to burn another $100-160 for a replacement toner cart even though over 90% of the toner would still be present. SINCE I DO NOT HAVE INSIDE INFORMATION on how they actually determine the toner level this is just a guess. THE UNDISPUTABLE FACT IS THAT THIS DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO TURN OFF OR RESET AND KEEP PRINTING UNTIL YOU FEEL IT IS LOW. THE PRINTER JUST DECIDES FOR YOU THAT IT WILL NOT WORK UNTIL A NEW LOAD IS INSTALLED.

Plugged it in got an error message that the toner cartridge was missing or unresponsive. Called technical support, tried to restart, same error. Don't want a printer that won't run from the start.
