Q: Will this work on sheet rock without cracking/smashing it at the clamp?

I would think that it would. You could always put a protective cloth on the sheet rock where the glamp would grab it to make sure it doesn't make any marks on it. I don't see how it would crack it or anything like that. Just start out slow when you go to grab the sheet rock and gradually lift it until you get it to a height that you can carry it. You could always put a roller under the sheet rock and hold it with the grabber and roll it to wear you need it. Hope that helps! Bev

Q: Are stairs an issue with this to carry panels up and down?

This tool is great to move large panels such as plywood. It takes the awkwardness of a 4'x7' sheet out of the equation. I would guess that as long as one could lift the weight of the plywood while holding the clamp high enough for the bottom edge of the plywood to clear the stair treads it would work. I'm only 5'9" so I would need to hold the clamp well above my head to achieve that height (I would likely have my arm locked straight up in the air). However, if one is accustomed to the weight of a ¾" piece of plywood I would say it is manageable to walk an unobstructed flight of stairs.
