Weed Killer for Organic Gardening, 1 Gallon

I tried using a mixture of borax, horticultural vinegar and dish soap to tackle the weeds and especially poison ivy in the wooded area of our backyard and it wasn't as effective as I was hoping. After several applications of the vinegar solution, some weeds died, most didn't and my backyard smelt like salt & vinegar potato chips!So I found this and along with smelling great, it works so well! I'm so happy with this product! It covers a large area and is effective on the first application and is around the same price as the 30% vinegar. I'm on my third gallon at this point mostly because we're having such a wet spring, it's such a large area and I'm trying to keep all the poison ivy runners from outside our fence at bay.

First, this stuff really works. Weeds are dead the next day. But... I sprayed it on a slightly breezy day and apparently got blowback onto my face and neck. I woke up the next morning in agony! My eyes were swollen shut and I had chemical burns all over my face and neck! It took a very painful week to recover. I know this was what did it because the following week as I took the jug to the trash, a tiny bit dripped on my wrist and a chemical burn developed in that spot as well. Just because it says it's organic, doesn't mean it's not powerful and possibly downright dangerous. Definitely cover up when you use this, do not handle with bare hands, and keep children and pets far away while its wet.

Avenger is a great product I have used very effectively for three seasons now, but this version is horrible, it is already mixed and ready to spray but I am not sure about the concentration. I normally buy the concentrated version by the gallon and use a stronger ratio (1 quart to 1 gallon of water). It kills everything and much faster than roundup. My biggest problems are thistle which requires multiple passes with roundup but only one pass with Avenger. So if you like Avenger, do not buy this version, buy the concentrate! If you use a strong ratio like me, you can save yourself over $100. If you make a weaker version, you will save even more. Yes, you need a 1-gallon sprayer but they can be found for $20-$30 and you still save a ton. I was disappointed when this arrived and but PITA to return it, so I used it and was disappointed by its weak ratio.

Works well, works fast. I sprayed it on a bunch of different grasses and weeds that were working their way into cracks in my sidewalk and driveway; it goes on white and dries to clear within a couple of minutes on a hot day. Within a half hour everything I sprayed had turned brown, and within a couple of hours was all shriveled up.Note: this is a non-selective weed killer! It will kill your weeds, but also your grass and probably your plants and flowers and shrubs too. I wanted that (I needed something to kill a patch of grass as well as 'regular' weeds) but you might not. Be careful where you spray it.The only negative to this product I can think of is that my bottle didn't come with a way to dispense the product - I had to borrow the spray attachment from another weed killer and put it on this bottle. Not a big deal.

Kills weeds within days. Spray has a nice citrus smell. Once sprayed it takes a few days for the weeds to turn brown. I waited about a week and then pulled them as the deep rooted weeds were easier to pull after about a week. Didn't stain my white rocks in my flower bed. My driveway has pavers so the weeds grown between the pavers. I didn't want the landscapers using roundup on the driveway as we have pets. This worked great.

This is a REALLY selective weed killer! I applied it exactly as instructed, and it too about a week for it to kill a few weeds. It had no effect at all on others. There is a disclaimer about the product, and it should be considered before purchase. This is a pretty expensive product for at best about a 50% solution, but I do appreciate the option of an organic spray.

I didn't read the bottle, and my boyfriend administered the weed killer on the grass so I can't vouch for the process 100%, BUT it didn't work. I don't know if it only works when applied a particular way or at a particular time, but the weeds turned brown and survived. I'm kind of bummed because this stuff is expensive, and I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to use chemicals on my property.

I've been really pleased with this as a non-toxic option for weed killer. Using it on a sunny day is key, but everything I've used it on with a couple of days of full sun has withered and died. It even killed ivy with a couple of applications! Definitely worth a try if you don't like the idea of all the bad things in Round-up.
