Do you have to screw it on? Can you just slide it under? Will it do its job if you don't use the screws? I don't want to ruin my door.

It has screws to keep it in place. It needs them so it won’t cause door to be difficult to shut from slipping.

What is the bottom sweep material made of and will it scratch a wood floor

Plastic and no it will not scratch your floor. I used the product on 3 exterior doors and it was an easy install and tight seal fit.

Can this be screwed into a metal/aluminum storm door?

Mine came with holes that matched the holes in the storm door.
