I would say no, the gray background is the best way to see the truest version of the color you're mixing.

It’s a neutral grey and works very well for accurate color mixing. On a value scale of 1 - 11, with 1 being white and 11 being black, it is a 6.

It fits perfectly in a Masterson covered palette. Put a little clove oil in to help oils from drying out

Sorry, I do not know. I keep my left-over paint on the palette in a plastic box with a tight lid.... keeps well for 2-3 days.
