Not for hyper 10 year olds
Grandson loved it! Unfortunately he over pumped it and a part separated from the pumper and could not be retrieved.

Our son Loved it ! High Quality parts
The media could not be loaded. This water power STEM toy kit from Thames & Kosmo was a hit with my 7 y.o son and he had lots of fun building and trying out the various water powered toys and had a lot of re-playablity.BUILD QUALITY- Probably one of the best things about this toy is its excellent build quality and the fit and finish of its interlocking parts.- We have brought other similar build it yourself STEM kits for our son in the past and almost all of them are generally plagued either poor quality parts or ill fitting components that not only are difficult for kids, but also compromise the structural rigidity of the toy- We had no such issues with this STEM kit , every component was made with high quality , thick plastic that fit together very wellUSING/PLAYING WITH IT- Our son was able to follow the simple instructions by himself and able build out the various toys. His personal favorite was the rocket car- The pump mechanism feels solid and is airtight- The performance of the toy depends on how much air you are able to compress/pump in the tube . Our son was had a bit of difficulty compressing the air too much as it required a lot of force and asked us for help because he wanted his car to go 'fast'DISLIKESNone reallyFINAL THOUGHTSOverall is a a very high quality STEP build it yourself kit for kids that they will sure to love and would make a great gift for them. Highly recommended

Fun and educational
This is one of the good Thames and Kosmos kits. (We have had both great kits and terrible kits from them in the past.) My 5 year old and my 8 year old could build the experiments together, and the "check it out" sections of the book taught them some of the science behind why the experiments work. The pieces are a little difficult to put together, but it's doable. You will get wet doing these experiments, they work best outdoors in a bathing suit. You will also need a body of water for the boat experiments (the bathtub works). Overall this kit was both educational and enjoyable. It covers basic engineering (with the assembly) Newtons third law of motion, the recoil principle, and pneumatics. It's suitable for elementary school students and kids. It's too simple for older kids.

Junk
We assembled the water car per the instructions, pumped it up A LOT, and it barely moved.

Easy to build, smaller than you think
I got this for my 7 and 11 year old daughter and son, and they've been having a blast. It's very easy to setup (the water car and water gun take less than 10 minutes each). A few things of note:- When we first tried using the water car, not enough water was coming out. I had to stick a toothpick down the exhaust valve in order to clear out space. Afterwards, the water car was able to traverse my deck- To get some good water pressure built up, my 11yo son could do it just fine. My 7yo daughter struggled to do those final few pumps. Depending on the strength of your kids, you might have to help out- "Rocket car" and "Jet boat" might be stretching how fast these things travel. They do not go fast, but it's still fun.- The size of the water bottle is smaller than you might gather from the pictures. They might hold 8 ounces (which means this is less than half as much volume as a standard 20oz plastic soda bottle)- Fill the water to about half-way as that seems to be the optimal weight/thrust ratio- You have to align the hose such that the end of the hose remains under water (this is important for the water gun and water car).- You obviously have to do this outside. Water will spray all over the place! Thanks for reading, and I hope you found this review helpful!

Great Toy!
We've had many STEM toys like this one, only this one is much better quality and more fun than 90% of those other ones. The directions are complete, and all the parts were included. My 11 year old son was able to use the directions to complete all the builds himself. There was zero frustration for once. He's enjoyed taking it apart and building one of the other options, too. I love how engaged he is.I let him use it on our tile floor this week because it's gotten too cold to use it on our driveway. It was messy, but not terrible. He used our mop to clean up the water every once in awhile. This is a great toy! I love how it can be used to build different things. I'd say it would be perfect for a kid ages 5 (with adult or older sibling help), but most kids ages 8 and up and can probably do it on their own. This would make a great gift! It all breaks down so you can stick it back in the original box, too. The box isn't very big, either. Such good quality compared to other similar kits we've gotten..Highly recommend!

Fun Projects
The media could not be loaded. My 9 year old and I started with the water car. It did okay, but only worked the first few times and then put José wasn’t working. To take it apart we needed our own pliers. The next thing we tried was the water gun which worked good. My son likes figuring out the projects and the directions are good. He then likes the experiments of how much air or the difference with full water or half water. The booklet also compares the mechanics applied to real world things like space travel and within the animal kingdom. In fact, the book is really cool and has lots of things for kids to try. Overall, it’s a decent science project but note you may be helping your child and it doesn’t always work perfectly.
